The Problem has begun again
|
|
first of all, this may be a problem with my computer (not browser, i already changed to FireFox), so if there is anyone on here that is computer savoy that I can talk to via Personal Message or AIM, or something else, that can help me find out why I'm having problems, please let me know so I don't have to take up space in this forum. Here is the problem: I find a song I want to download, right-click, Save Target As, pick a folder to put it in, press OK...then it says the download is starting, two seconds later it says it's DONE; a file does appear in the folder but it only has a name, no other details (it is like nothing was downloaded). It seems to me that my computer is having problems downloading the files, and I don't understand why (it can't be my FireFox browser, right? is it the files?). I went to another site, like this one, and the same thing happened. The strange thing is, though, I'd go to the other site, one file would actually download, then I'd try another, and the problem would happen again. I'd come back here and a file would actually download, but, again, nothing else would. I have read over the FAQs and Rules several times and this is a problem I can't fix on my own, so if anyone can help, or wants to try to help, please contact me, either on this forum or in a Personal Message. |

that's not the problem...I wait 10 minutes and it still wouldn't work. VERIFICATION: I waited 6 minutes since I replied, and the problem persists. |

I have been seeing this in my logs a lot lately. I don't know if it is due to a download accelerator, or maybe firefox is doing something retarded. It appears that your browser is requesting each file twice. For some reason, it restarts the transfer soon after it has began. I suspect that the connection is started to establish the content-type, and then re-initiated once you choose a download location. This is totally fucking stupid, because you only clicked the link ONCE so it should only start the download ONCE. Please keep working with me until we can find a solution! With your help, many many other people can be relieved of this same problem. Just to be sure, you aren't using a download accelerator, are you? What happens if you pause 10 seconds in the choose-where-to-save-the-file window? Did it work up until you upgraded firefox? Do you have any firefox plugins installed? What happens if you option-click the links (force-download)? 26/Mar/2007:20:48:55 Bleach_-_Zan.mp3 26/Mar/2007:20:49:00 Bleach_-_Zan.mp3 26/Mar/2007:20:51:55 Bleach_-_Zan.mp3 26/Mar/2007:20:52:01 Bleach_-_Zan.mp3 26/Mar/2007:21:03:27 Bleach_-_Zan.mp3 26/Mar/2007:21:03:36 Bleach_-_Zan.mp3 26/Mar/2007:21:07:26 Bleach_-_Zan.mp3 26/Mar/2007:21:07:34 Bleach_-_Zan.mp3 26/Mar/2007:21:13:35 Bleach_-_Momoiro_no_Hana.mp3 26/Mar/2007:21:13:47 Bleach_-_Momoiro_no_Hana.mp3 26/Mar/2007:21:16:12 Bleach_-_Zan.mp3 26/Mar/2007:21:16:19 Bleach_-_Zan.mp3 26/Mar/2007:21:19:20 Bleach_-_Movin.mp3 26/Mar/2007:21:19:28 Bleach_-_Movin.mp3 26/Mar/2007:21:22:03 Bleach_-_This_Light_I_See.mp3 26/Mar/2007:21:22:09 Bleach_-_This_Light_I_See.mp3 26/Mar/2007:21:24:16 Bleach_-_My_Pace.mp3 26/Mar/2007:21:24:22 Bleach_-_My_Pace.mp3 26/Mar/2007:21:31:45 Amaenaideyo_Katsu_-_Amaenaideyo.mp3 26/Mar/2007:21:31:51 Amaenaideyo_Katsu_-_Amaenaideyo.mp3 26/Mar/2007:22:04:47 Bleach_-_Hanabi.mp3 26/Mar/2007:22:04:51 Bleach_-_Hanabi.mp3 26/Mar/2007:22:05:38 Katekyo_Hitman_Reborn_-_One_Night_Star.mp3 26/Mar/2007:22:05:41 Katekyo_Hitman_Reborn_-_One_Night_Star.mp3 26/Mar/2007:22:20:38 Bleach_-_Hyouri.mp3 26/Mar/2007:22:20:45 Bleach_-_Hyouri.mp3

I just tried another song, here is what happens: 1. right-click; Save Link As; i choose where to save the file 2. a download window pops up, says "Starting"; then a bar showing download progress pops up; when it reaches 100% it says "Done" 3. i open the file and it works 4. It has now been about 8 hours since I've tried. I try again, with same procedure, and and it won't work. I have not installed any download accelerators on my computer, I don't even know where to find any if wanted one, so I don't believe that is the problem. Could a download accelerator have been installed inadvertently? I tried pausing a full minute after the Save Window popped up, and no luck. We I first downloaded firefox, everything worked. I didn't make any changes to the browser or my computer before it stopped working. What do you mean by option-clicking? Do you mean try click the link rather than saving it? |

in firefox, if you hold down option and click on the link, it will automatically download the file. EDIT: it appears that your computer is receiving 67,160 bytes of the file, then the connection is broken (on your end). Your browser (firefox) incorrectly attempts to re-establish the connection to resume the download, but it does so within 10 seconds of the first try (most of the time) and gets an error. This is most likely a network problem. Check your router or modem for firmware upgrades. It could also be some sort of virus or spyware, so check try running antivirus. EDIT 2: I noticed you are using b12webproxy07.direcpc.com to connect to my website. This is a proxy server, and may be doing something fishy with the connection. You might try complaining to your ISP about this problem, especially since the problem is being experienced on all websites, not just this one. Once you find the solution, please let me know, because I am very interested in this strange problem.
