Acrobatics Anonymous
|
I am creating this thread to introduce the world of parkour, free running, and general gymnastics/acrobatics to the forum. I was just wondering if anyone else was interested in these kinds of things. Feel free to discuss/debate tricks, training, or philosophy behind the freedom of movement. Don't hesitate to ask if you want to know how to perform a trick because I have been dumb enough to try a good bit of them and would be happy to provide any information I have on them. Be gentle it's my first thread. |

Well everyone's first thought when introduced to parkour is "wow I wish I could do that" and then "damn I'd probably kill myself." But really it comes down to practice and training. The more you do it, the better you get. When you're little you always play outside with your friends climbing trees and running around. Well this is pretty much what you do when you outgrow those things and are looking for more. You don't start out doing a front side backflip off of the roof of a building. You start out scaling a wall, vaulting over a railing, or doing forward rolls. The people doing those big exhibitions have been doing it for years and have that bodily toughness and awareness to get away with those impossible feats. Free-running is like skateboarding and roller blading except you don't have to buy any equipment...well maybe a good pair of shoes. I got into it about a year ago when I went browsing through the internet. Even then it seemed that most of the sport was being done over in Europe. But even at my highschool it went from me being the only one that knew about it to atleast a good 20-25 kids I know that do it now. |

I just looked up parkour on wikipedia. It sounds like the classic Sholin kung fu training. I think it is good exercise for young people. Just try not to jump over buildings like they do in "The Matrix". o_- ![]() |
