Loneliness...A choice....or something else

What do you feel defines loneliness...I mean many people can exclude themselves from social interaction yet can society itself not exclude the individual. Or are we all lonely in some sense. I used this quote in an essay I wrote for school a long time ago, "Man fears loneliness...Yet, he creates it."
We fear being lonely and from that fear do we not create our loneliness.
What are your thoughts on how loneliness originates in the individual...

Man has a choice. If he wishes to stay in that condition, he will and it's up to him if he wants to move on or not.

In layman's terms, man chooses whether he wants to be lonely or not. Others may cause this loneliness, but in the long run, only ourselves can judge if we will stay in such state or not.

Try to find happiness, even in some small things. Look at your surroundings, there are simple things that will give big happiness.

@Jed: Giving up on happiness is stupid. Man finds it even if he says he gave up on it.
