Is it true that Death Note the anime is going to be dubbed and not available to watch on the net and you will have to pay for it to watch? |

I think so. Death Note is licensed by Viz Media. Check this link for info.

You do realize that Viz is the same outfit that did such a disappointing job with Naruto, don't you? "Believe it" anyone? Mostly, though, I find this business of pre-emptively licensing a series before the season is half over very disturbing. It suggests that they place no confidence in their own studio's voice talent if they feel the need to shut down original-language subs so early on. If they're that concerned about it, maybe they should go looking for better voice talent, or start hiring ADV to do their dubs, like Funimation's been doing lately. ;) ![]() |

For an easy to understand version of Death Note's being licensed, go here. BTW, you have to admit it makes sense that VIZ would license the anime so quickly. It already publishes the manga in english, and they probably don't want to lose profits for what would be a huge hit because of fansubbing.

If they do a good job on the English dub, I buy it. If the English dub sucks, I usually don't bother. In Japan, great amphasis is placed on voice talent, and the dialogue in most anime isn't dumbed down. In America, businessmen often think they know better than artists, and when this happens, the end result is insulting to the "target" audience. Given that not all dubbing studios do the same quality work, I've started to come to the conclusion that the existence of fansubs may be the only available form of quality control we have at our disposal. Again, given other dubbing projects of theirs I've seen portions of-- that largely convinced me to save my money for something else-- this "pre-emptive strike" trend makes little secret of their voice-acting insecurities. ![]() |

yeah, i was also shocked when i saw that DN got licensed. but there are still fansub groups that are still subbing it, like KubuSubs. so i was glad that i got to watch ep 13 =] ![]() |
