Dell screwed me
|
Have any of you bought something from Dell and opened it up to find that it wasn't as advertised? I opened my Dell PC which was advertised as having one PCI port and a PCI express port and found two PCI ports. I wonder how Dell gets away with it. Furthermore, I checked Dell's website just to make sure that it wasn't a typo on the ad and found that it was also on their website.

PCI express (PCI-E) is for video card isn't it, are you sure your dell not has it?, because i think this PCI-E become standart on all motherboard nowdays, or maybe your PCI-E already taken by a video card. |

I have had an encounter with Dell before. It was agonizing. (imitates indian accent) They outsource their labor to India and don't bother to make sure that their workers have adequate english skills so it takes three hours to get a message across to them (end indian accent) and besides, my hard drive is over half full so I don't feel like having to burn all of my files to DVDs and lose some of the data on my hard drive due to "copyright protection". In response to Toushiro-10, I checked and I even took out my modem and verified that it is standard PCI so yeah, I was f***ed over by them. You know what they say, Dell is hell.

Well of course a modem connects through a standard PCI port. That's all they've used for the past 5 years at least. Were you planning on installing a new graphics card in your imaginary PCI-E port or what? |

I bet for the money you spent on that Dell you could of made a better computer. Next time make you own computer alot less hasle. And if you happen to be nub about building or comps in general just as the guys at the comp specialty store you go to or ask a friend and or these forums, they would be able to give you great advice. Don't knock a service until you have exhausted all your options. :D btw my comp used to be a Dell until i parted it and now i made it my own :D |

Another unfortunate case of one of the masses being tricked by the evil empire more evil than Microsoft to Apple Junkies.... Calling them should work, if not though....well, you're kinda f-disked then. Nowadays, when people say they heard that phrase "Dude, you're gettin a Dell!", I hear "Dude, you can join me in Hell!"
Beware the quiet people,
You don't know their intentions

I was planning on installing a new GPU in the imaginary PCI-express port. I also noticed that my power supply is 230 watts so I have to get another power supply. I heard that they use a proprietary type of power supply so I would appreciate it if anybody could tell me where I could get a better power supply.

The PSU shouldn't matter that much unless you're installing some really power-consuming, high end GPU. I installed a GeForce 7600 ( recommended 350W PSU) on my Dell with 230W PSU, it worked fine. And yeah, they use a proprietary type of PSU, so the only way to get a better one is to call Dell. ( I tried to call them to upgrade my PSU for my GF7600, but they told me 230W is the max available). |
