i'm running Ubuntu 6.06(Dapper Drake) and i installed shockwave flash in firefox 2.0.0.1 (using the firefox plugin downloads). problem is, whenever i play flash games or videos, no sound in coming out. when i played them in windows, there's sound. but i don't hear any sound for Ubuntu(i've already switched on the sound for both cases). i'm hoping if there's any Ubuntu users (i know there's some, if not many) out there who could help me with this....

eg of flash game: nanaca crash
eg of video:Ph33rbot

edit:problem fixed...but meh...

Is it always without sound or just usually? I built my gf a Ubuntu compy and it sorta had iffy sound in flash like in youtube videos and such but they seemed to work much better after I installed the beta version of Flash 9 for Linux. The official stable version for linux is still version 7 while Mac and Win are on 9. If you want to try installing Flash 9, it's not hard and I could probably walk you through it.

i've already installed flash 9...just by deleting flash 7 and replaced it's file with flash 9 in my firefox folder. and it's done.

Honestly, I don't really know what fixed it, but one day it just seemed to work for some reason. I just guessed it was flash 9, but I can't really remember when I installed it or when the problem stopped either.

try typing about:plugins in your firefox address bar. it should tell you weather flash 9 was installed or not...

I'll check it out the next time I go over there. And, FYI, I haven't had any problems at all out of 6.10 Edgy. I would suggest upgrading if it's feasible.

i wanted to upgrade to Edgy, but some in the ubuntu forums said that Edgy is still in an experiment state...i'll post the link here when i find it...but i'll continue using Dapper, i haven't had any problems with it. (although i'm still looking for a good bittorrent client[tried rufus, but the download rate is pretty slow on a torrent with 2k++ seed] and a download manager similar to flashget). i'm still using WinXP for playing games, editing 1d3 tags and torrent downloads though

Actually, Edgy has been a stable release since October '06, hence the branding 6.10. That was probably just an old forum post. As to a torrent program, if you haven't tried Azereus, I would give it a shot, but I don't really know, since I don't use Linux as any sort of primary OS, though I've got my gf and the rest of my family using it. They don't use bittorrent though. The media player Amarok is ok for editing mp3 tags, but there are specific programs out there specifically for tagging songs, don't use any myself though.

i see...i though Edgy was still unstable...i should have taken note of the date when i'm reading a post...i wanted to try Azureus, but it uses Java, and i'm still unsure if i want to use Azureus or not, but i'll give it a shot when i login to my Ubuntu partition. for Amarok, it seems like it's a native KDE application, but it looks like it still works in GNOME(from the screenshots and comments from others). i'll give that a shot as well, thanks^^. i was kinda hoping for a media player similar to MusicMatch jukebox though...maybe i should try installing it with WINE...

There are plenty of good GNU media players out there that you shouldn't have to bother with wine. Also, just because a program is designed for KDE doesn't mean it will only work in a KDE desktop. Most programs will work just fine in GNOME.

want ask something:
how to read windows partition on edgy eft? help says go to administration-disks-partition, but there is no menu called 'disk'.

how to read windows partition? it should be automatically readable once you plug in an ntfs/fat filesystem hard-disk...if you mean to say to write in an ntfs partition, try this site. this site will guide you in making your ntfs hard-disk writable

if you want to go to a menu called 'disk', you can find it at System>Administration>Disk.you usually use this application if you want to disable or change a path for a partition though. you can access your hard-disk just by clicking Places at the top of your panel.

Kay:

Why did you have those problems regarding Flash SOUNDS in Firefox using UBUNTU. I never encountered that problem. Better check the settings of your flash players if it is compatible to UBUNTU. My UBUNTU is ok in FLASH Animations and Sound.

I'm sorry, I can't help or say any information about those problems because I never encounter it. Maybe if I just encounter it, I can find a solution.

@Ruy, it was fixed about 1 week after i open this thread^^. it was simply the matter of replacing the flash file in the firefox folder(in your home directory)(or /etc in some cases) with the latest version of flash for linux.

nah, it's ok. we all know that not all of us can be online 24/7 (like me O.o)
my guess is not all Ubuntu systems encounter this...but from what i read in Ubuntu forums, it used to be a pretty common problem
