why is some of the best animes only last a few episodes?

the best example i can think of off the top of my head is king of bandits jing. can anyone else think of some great animes that only lasted a few episodes?

I think the opinion: 'the anime is too short' is induced by the fact that the anime only has a few eps. Some 26 ep series should (could) have been longer. A good examples are GITS:Stand Alone Complex and Witch Hunter Robin, aswell as the .hack series As for a good short serie .. hmm .. actually I dont have alot <13 ep series *^_^* best one would be SE Lain I think :) |

yes i agree some series that last under thirty episodes could have been longer too. i'm kinda into some of the series that many people around here dont even want to watch like Full Metal Panic! and Dai-Guard.

| I'm glad that some series end soon. Series like Gunslinger Girl, FLCL, and Witch Hunter Robin are better at their length; Dragon Ball and Inuyasha are two examples of a series that would have been better if they were shortened. How many 'bs' eps. of Inuyasha have there been, where neither the characters are developed nor the story furthered? too many. FLCL, on the other hand, stays short and therefore each episode is excellent and worth your time (not to mention your money). |

Well hi I'm new. well how about Oh my Goddess it's only 5 eps plus a movie, I think I'l start buying the manga but I gotta buy the movie. Plus I think that there is a side story to go along with OMG isn't there?

Well i kinda agree w/ iyounestu that would be boring w/ more episodes but then again it could be even better but for some in mind FLCL,Fruits Basket,thats about it cause i like long anime and dont watch to many short ones
It's all fun and games untill Snape ends up in a banna suit....

The answer is simple. Anime like most things cost Money. Some studios put out OVA's so they can make a show look great, and not have to worry about making enough filler to get on TV. FLCL, and Blue Sub 6 for example has world class animation, and everthing in each of the four episodes is precisely thought out. Some series are only 12 or 13 episodes. Haibane Renme, and Niea under 7 by Abe-san are great examples of short but sweet TV shows. Domestic Poor animation his company just doesn't have the scratch to put out longer series at that level of quality. So he doesn't. The rest like Escaflowne for example have backing. Escaflowne, and Gundam are produced by Bandai. Bandai is of the world's largest entertainment companies. They also know people will watch their shows. Gundam has been getting a solid rating since before I've been born. "Aestro Anime Champ" |

and also, with the fast growth of production on mangas and animes, the animations can't be long anymore. because there's always another anime waiting to be aired on tv. 2004 alone has extended anime hours to around 1:00-2:00 in the morning, each and almost every channel in japan, 7 days a week. there's way too much to be aired. so the shorter the anime, the sooner they can allow other animes to be aired. and from what my japanese friend had told me, there's 27 anime tittles (or is it 14?) are going to be aired on this April alone. (including clamp's Tsubasa) so it's very tight. |

guestion: who knows exactly how many episodes of Angel Sanctuary there are? some one told me it was only around four, but I have no idea cause its stupid hard to find where I am (stupid anime deprived city)

i wasn't interested in angel sanctuary, but i did come across it once. my best guess is that they lasted around the 13 episode range. again, that was a guess, so i could be wrong. |

"Iriya no Sora, UFO no natsu", a great love-story anime that lasted only 6 episodes. An OVA direct from a jap novel "Iriya of the Summer, UFO of the Sky". A boy, Asaba, went to school late one night to use the pool. It was 4am in the morning, and then was when he met his love for the 1st time. Her name was Iriya Kana. She was a secret UFO pilot for the nearby army base although she was only 15 years old. She was trained from birth to pilot Earth's most lethal weapon and was Earth's only hope of winning the war against the alien race. Love developed and they became close love birds. That was until Iriya was ordered on a final mission to combat against the aliens. They were seperated, but they both understood each other. Although they thought it was unfair for Iriya to do the 'dirty' job for the sake of human kind, Iriya knew it was her job and duty to defend Earth. She had all the confidence and determination to win the battle, and that was "Asaba is on Earth, that's why i must defend it". Story ended with Asaba carrying on with his high school life, and awaiting the return of Iriya. No one knew whether Iriya made it or not, because her identity was after all a national top secret. Very well done...i was so touched that i cried. yes, i cried...

The reason why many anime series last around 12 eps. is simple. Because if they drag on & on & ON...! Then they become EXTREMELY tedious, like "Naruto" & Dragonball Z"!! |
