Internet Explorer not responding
Link | by Nekorin on 2006-11-11 21:41:56
I'm accessing now from fire fox. Every time I try to open internet explorer, it says not responding. Then when I close it I get an error report, which says it will link me to a page that will solve the problem, but that says not responding to. Please help!

this is likely because the server is overloaded and returning slowly.

Does that mean it's a problem outside my control and will go away with time? Firefox has been taking like 30 seconds to load any given page today.

Gendou.com is just like a supermarket. If there are 650 people all in the supermarket at once, the checkout line takes FOREVER.
There are two ways to reduce the wait time: improve the efficiency of the checkout process (i.e. add more tellers or use barcode technology) or reduce the number of customers permitted in the store.
The prior is, of course, desirable.
I am working on it.
This process will take AT LEASE a few weeks.
Yesterday's downtime was an attempt at some new code which might speed things up a bit.
For the time being, it might be a good idea to "avoid peak hours".
Sundays are particularly high-traffic for a website like this :(

I'm not talking about your website. :( When I activate internet explorer, which takes me to a home page other than here, it gives up and says the program is not responding. So I used firefox to access the internet instead, and every page I visited, (pages other than here too) took a long time to load. For some reason now the pages are loading at a normal speed, but internet explorer still isn't working. Is this a problem with my computer? And can I fix it? When you said the server I thought you meant my internet provider.

Hmm... you mean an alert window from the OS is showing...? chances are... your IE is probably corrupted or something...

if IE is broke, its probably a malicious toolbar you have installed.
how about you just don't use IE? :D

As little as I or anyone else may like it, I must give credit where credit is due, and therefore, I must say that IE version 7 (just released recently) is a vast improvement over the past versions and if you don't like any other browser choice out there, simply upgrading to a clean IE7 would be acceptable. Problem is, it will maintain anythings you have installed to IE6 when you install it, so you will have to use the reset feature after upgrading. (Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > 'Reset...')

On my internet explorer browser there is a button to install it, but unfortunately since the program is not responding I can't. Is this something that seems like it's a cause of a virus? Sometimes I get messages that programs won't respond, but usually I just have to try again.

(I don't like firefox. All my favorites are on explorer and firefox won't let me refresh images with full quality.)

I think you can use firefox to browse to the microsoft website and download IE 7. I'll get a link in a second...

EDIT: Here it be: IE 7 Downloads

If you want your bookmarks in Firefox, all you have to do is:
Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks

File > Import...

Select from Internet Explorer and they will all be in a folder as being imported from IE.

If you explain more about your problem with images, I may be able to help you solve that as well.

Ah yes, thank you for helping me with my favorites. :)

For my image problem. You see, I have a slow Dial-up connection, and in order to make pages load faster my computer automatically reduces the quality of images on the web. If I want to see a picture clearly, I must right-click it and choose the option "refresh image with full quality." The it will load fully. Sometimes I must refresh the page with full quality in the same manner.

Here are some pictures I made of my problem with internet explorer.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

When I try to open it, it freezes without loading, like so. This is followed by a message stating my program is not responding.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Then, when I click the option to exit the program, (there is also an option to debug the program, which I know nothing about.)I get this, which offers to link me to a page telling me what's wrong. Unfortunately, when I choose it it opens an internet explorer browser, and the cycle begins anew.

So, will the problem go away if I install 7? Do I need to purge all my plug-ins? Aren't there plug-ins that I need?

Yes, I would highly recommend version 7, not just because of your problems, but just because it's that much better than 6. After you've installed it, do like I mentioned before (On the far right, Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > 'Reset...') and that should get rid of any unwanted plug-ins.

Ok, my internet explorer started working again, and I've been thinking. Maybe it's because my homepage was set to myspace.com, and it was too crowded like Gendou said earlier? I've changed my homepage and the problem hasn't occurred again thus far.

Well...... If it were me...... I wouldn't go to myspace at all, ever. That way I would be guaranteed that I could never get any spyware or viruses from myspace. And I wouldn't have to look at millions of ad banners per hour. And I would just use facebook. Or something else. Anything else.

But that's just me.

why is it that theres so many pop ups in IE than mozilla?

and y is it that some sites cannot be opened in IE while mozzila can?

Because FireFox has something called a Pop-up blocker.
I have no idea if IE7 has this too, could be.

Some pages can only be opened in FireFox or IE because the webdeveloper(s) of that site made a choice to do some bad programming and only use IE or FireFox specific tags. Also IE has the ability to run ActiveX components, sort of small applications, some awesome insecure stuff (FireFox only has rudimentary support for this).
So far I've only seen sites that are not possible to open in FireFox, not the other way around.

Why don't you use Avant rather than IE?

The codename's r3ck0rd. Find me in my Facebook Profile Page, or in my blog.

Never heard of it. The problem went away when I changed to a better homepage.
