School Fair in Japan

How do Japanese students conduct their school fair?
I'm just curious, because back in the university where I study, we have school fairs to celebrate the 'establishment' of the school. It is a week-long celebration with full of food stalls and other booths. Is it like this in Japan or do they have other reasons?

Thanks ^^

Hmm... I'm not sure if Japanese schools have fairs specifically to "celebrate their establishment..." It could be possible, but I'm sure the Japanese have other reasons for having School Fairs, too. ♪ (^-^) ♪ From what I know, their School Festivals tie more into Japanese culture.. ★△※◆

For example, in the Fall many universities host what they call a "Cultural Festival," where the activities are much like what you have described. (Inu-Yasha episodes 127 & 128 show what a typical, Japanese Cultural Festival is like.. minus the Demons, of course! (^.^;;)笑) Certain Clubs, like Dance, will also put on demonstrations to entertain people. The festivities usually last 3 days or more, depending on the school..

Last Spring, the Japanese university I attended had a week-long "Spirit Week." ★ Many of the school's Clubs and Circles had displays and shows for other people to enjoy. Every evening, local bands would play on a stage.. It was a lot of fun! ★ The goal was to increase School Spirit and Awareness.. but in my opinion, the events were also there to promote Club pride and showcase new, school talent.

This is why I think the Japanese have many reasons for putting on School Fairs..
