Anyone into Japanese literature?

Ever since I started taking literature classes, I've started to like it more. Last semester I read the Tale of Genji (the Edward Seidensticker translation), and it practically took me all semester but it was worth it. Now I am trying to read it in Classical Japanese and I am also reading the Arthur Waley transltion in comparison with how I am reading it. It's kinda not going too well at the moment.

My favorite modern authors are Tanizaki Jun'ichirou, Kawabata Yasunari, Natsume Souseki, and Akutagawa. My favorite stories are Chijin no Ai (known as Naomi in the states), Yukiguni, Kokoro, and Yabu no Naka.

I am about to graduate from college this May and if I don't go on the JET program (I defenitley will though), I will probably go on to graduate school studying Japanese literature.

I have just recently started to read Japanese literature.. just recently finished Natsume Soseki's 'I am a cat' or the Japanese title "Wagahai wa neko de aru". It is a brilliant book as far as i'm concerned and being a dog person its saying a lot. I just love the way he wrote the book and at how it looks at the human life from a cats perspective, cause if you think of it that way, some of the things we do are really funny! I'm looking out for a copy of his book 'Kokoro' and "Botchan' as well, among others.

Right now i've started 'Shank's Mare' or 'Hizakurige' by Ikku Jippensha. I believe that he is known more as a comic/humourous writer. I haven't read enough of the book to form an opinion about it but so far so good.

Other than that, i haven't really read much Japanese books (that has been translated to English) but if you want a really 'feel good' book i would really recommend "Totto-Chan by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi". I wish i had been introduced to that book when i was 10.

I would definately like to read the Vampire Hunter D novel series and the Perfect Blue novel all together, if I get a chance to learn some Japanese.
