Has anybody here seen or read Revolutionary Girl Utena. If so who's your favorite character and did you like it or not? I'm just throwing it out there to see if there are any other fans of it here. *^_^*

I LOVE THE MOVIE! The series is good, but the movie is by far one of the best films out there. I like Jury and Saianji (spelled right?), and my fave is Acting Headmaster Akio! in fact I'll watch the movie now. It's one of the few anime movies you can watch with a girl and it's cool. I like how that movie has a lot of really good scenes one after another, and they are all so different! It reminds me of Akira in terms of greatness. My favorite scenes, so hard to choose; I choose the battle with Saianji, the scene in Utena's bedroom, the scenes with the Headmaster Ukio and of course The Dance with the Rose Petals! Did you know that scene is computer animated? What are your fave scens in that movie?  Here's a pic for you, fellow fan! ....chow! |

actually, utena is 39 episodes. the movie came two years after as an alternate retelling in 1999. I couldn't disagree more with the prev. comment-- it's the wonderful plot that makes utena so good. the story is NOT the typical plug-n-play anime type, but one that generates many more questions than it ever hopes to solve. why the castle floats upside-down, why cars jut out of a battlefield, what exactly is "ends of the world," etc., are not meant to be answered--the idea is to fascinate, and convey a theme, not answer to every detail. it's supposed to be a fairytale at heart, and I think it does a good job of that. the best characters, I think, are juri/ruka/shiori and their interesting love triangle, but juri especially. I enjoy the black rose duelist arc, too, and mikage. I'm not a big fan of anthy until the very end, but utena is a fantastic character and the most readily lovable. oh and the scene in the bedroom between utena and akio is simply one of the best scenes in anime I've ever seen. so brilliant. |

You should be an anime reviewer! I like the movie's plot too, it takes on that journey, ne? It is a little overwhelmin gat first, especially if you have'nt seen the series, but that's part of the magic! Akira was the same way, there is a lot to take in, and it's FASCINATING, and as you rewatch it gets better and better.  ....CHOW! |

| I read the manga it wasn't that bad but it doesn't compare with Negima or Inu-Yasha on storyline. |

I'd rather watch the movie Utena over the shallow Inuyasha movies any day. |

The movies for Inu Yasha are kinda like the young Dragonball Z movies. The enemies aren't from the series. I would name the Inu Yasha movies but I forgot the title names. @Chi, you should change your name to Negi or something.

WOW! i don't believe how many people have replied in only on day! i also saw the movie before the series, kinda, i saw 3 episodes that were kinda in the middle at a friends. i had no idea that the dance scene in the movie was computer animated, it's so hard to tell. shi-chan, your cosplays are so amazing! especially the one of utena in her pink dress. i was going to cosplay utena at the anime con where i live this past year but wasn't able to so i made an utena shirt and wore that and carried around a white rose. the one scene i love is how in utena's first duel against Saongi in the movie, utena's and anthy's hair is blowing in the wind but his never moves! me and my friend noticed it the first time we watched it. yea, now we call ourselves the rose bride, her, and the rose-prince, me. well i hope anybody else who reads this thread will put in thier input and that the rest of you do as well. i love hearing what others have to say about animes and why they love them!*^_^*

@ Akira: Yeah, the DVD is very good, and the director's commentary will give you a lot of insight into the movie AND the series. And the cosplays aren't me, they are just pics I have on my computer. I'm a Shishio-san, or Shishio-sama to others, or possibly Shishio-kun! (lol) But I will not miss Cospalying at our event in Detroit this year, when I go back home! I don't know what character I will be yet though.. @ Everyone: Is anyone interseted in a Utena RP in the Gendou City section? I'd have fun with that. We would basically make a fanfic in the Utena world as the character of your choice, or one you make up special, you make the story post by post.  |

@Shishio, would be cool, but I don't think it'll last long (not to take you down or anything). The profile would mostly be Name and Age. WOC (Weapon of Choicel; I created that great abrieviation), would all be the same mostly. You can just RP in the School is now in Session.Please take your seats (something like that) RP. You can add an Arena but add Ken first since he made the RP. I have been RPing alot, so al this is truth. XD Besides that, I thought you were gonna make another RP or something?

Huh? Oh, the new RP! Aurora Haven! Oh, I don't have time now, later this year! It'll be an RP that is related to all animes and you use pics in every post from any anime to convey the posts: the point is to have an RP that you can "watch" while you read and write posts. There's more to it that I think you'll like, but it is mainly for non-action purposes. I'll start it later in August, please don't start it without me though! It's OK if an Utena RP doesn't last long, I'd rather it be original though. If Akira, and maybe a few others say they are down, I'll set it up. But I call Saiongi!  |

sry about the name shishio-san, wasn't completely sure. but where did u find these cosplay pics at? they're all so good. they'd be great examples for making cosplay patterns. OH- i'd definitely be up for and Utena RP in Gendou city. I call utena! and this is just a random question- is Akira a guys name, cause i wasn't really sure? i just know it's the name of one of my fav animators so i decided to use it as a character name and nickname for here. (i wonder how many people think i'm a guy?)

Akira is a guy's name as far as I know, (like in the movie Akira - "TETSUO!!!" KINATA!!!" AHHH!" sorry, Akira flashback) but I guess it can be a girl's name. Why not? If that still makes you uncomfrotable, put a "chan" after it or a girl's name in there somewhere. There are several good cospaly sites, I'll list them here later. As always, googleing cospaly+anime of choice works too! Cool! I'll make the Utena RP soon. I always wanted to go to that crazy school! Remember, it doesn't have to be perfect to the anime, you can make up your characters and scenarios, and even alter ones from the anime. I want to be a teacher, a young Saianji (who'll be a head master Akio rival!), who'll become the Saianji we all know and hate! |

Wow having a rival to acting chairman Akio. that would be great! sometimes he's a little to full of himself, i think. you know what would be really interesting? having utena and anthy switch places. not personalities like they did in the series with anthy's terrible cooking, but utena being the rose-bride and standing on the side lines while anthy dueled. i think that might be fun to do in the RP. but yea, tell me as soon as you post it. it should be so much fun!!*^_^*

This anime is unique cause I think you have to watch the movie before the series. I did that, and it kinda blended in and I learned more about the characters and such after I saw the movie. The movie was drawn very nicely.
