Another a thread that should have funny answers... I tried to get a copy of Akira in English, but the DVDs I found for sale didn't have the classic 80's English dialogue. I looked all over but could not find a version of this Akira dub anywhere. But this VHS at Blockbuster did. They had a DVD already, and would not sell me their copy, even for the $40 I offered! I didn't have a checking account at that age to buy one off the Internet, as if it could be found easily there, so I just rented Akira on VHS and never returned it...hehehehe... This angry guy who worked there, who was angry before, starts calling my house and of course he got hung up on, (sarcastically: ooh, I'm scared!!!), and in the end I was charged $20 (which I never paid) and banned from Blockbuster (Oh no! Now I can't be treated like crap at their video store anymore!). Later on, about a month later, they did sell all their VHS anyways... Since then, I found a nice local video store with a HUGE anime selection, including classic VHS for the nostalgic feel, and they order anime DVDs for me, and they are not angry to work there... (LOL) |

That is nothing compare to what I had to go through. Mine was also for Akira. I watched it 5 times without ever seeing the ending. 1 - It was on TV and halfway through, we got a power outage. ohnos! 2 - It was on the Sci-fi channel when they used to show anime...at 3 in the morning. Dozed of before I finished it. 3 - Rented the VHS and my VCR ate the tape and was forced to pay for it. 4 - It was on TV (again) and before I could reach the ending, I get called off to work for an emergency which leads to... 5 - Seeing as I can't finish it 'cuz of work, I pressed the record button on my VCR and left - only to return home and realize that I should have checked the tape. It was near the end and it just rewound itself without recording the ending. On a side note, I did manage to see the ending - nearly a decade later. My roomie at the time had bought a copy of it on DVD. I was afraid that something might go horrendously wrong, but I guess sixth time is the charm for me.

XD XD XD!!! The most trouble I've ever gone through just for an anime was when Adult Swim aired InuYasha They first aired it on tv when I was in 4th or 5th grade, so I wasn't allowed to stay up.... Every weekday, except Friday, I'd crawl down the stairs, avoiding being seen, avoiding the creaky stairs, and steering clear of the automatic lights that turns on when any movement is sensed in the area T-T It was a PAIN to get downstairs and up again, with my gran sleeping innthe same room as me and my parents just down the hall >__>;;

Lucky for you guys you watched Akira from the start. As for me on the middle part and to the end only, as it was shown in AXN Cable Channel. My trouble is I wasted money on some expensive Multimedia Player that costs around $450, and my friend told me that I can buy Creative's ZEN or others for almost $400 only. I even sold my pc to buy this! And of course to watch animes. Still it is working, but there are some vids that wont work, as you have to re-encode it again through DivX. |
