Hi,I need to know,um,the R in japanese words,how to pronounce them? I mean,like,romaji---> kokoro-It means heart in japanese,ok,now to say it out,say kokoro-pronouncing the R, OR ,kokolo? |

I no very little about japanese, but if you use the "l" its different. Kokoro is simply Koko"w"o with a "W". I think, I'm not so sure.

no no no, that's how you say it. The "r" I think will sound like a "w".

No no no, not like a W at all. It's not all that difficult; it's more like a hard 'r' sound, like how you would pronounce 'r' words in Spanish. I'll be as descriptive as I can.. When you pronounce the 'r', you would have the tip of your tongue at the roof of your mouth, like if you're pronouncing 'l' (the reason why Japanese people pronounce the English 'r' so weirdly). You could say it has a little bit to do with rolling your 'r's. Pronounce 'lick' with a shorter 'l' sound, and you should say something like 'rick'. Tell me if you have any more problems, it's not easy explaining this. :P    |

If you know anything about phonetics, it's the flap sound. It's the same sound that the "t" in "beautiful" makes. Note that it is not a t or a d, but just a flap of the tongue. Sometimes it is exaggerated to an L in certain cases in Japanese (like... in songs and things), but use the flap sound in normal speech. Also listen to the words pronounced and you will understand. Don't try to equate it to any english letters, especially not r or w. Just think of it as a sound/tongue movement. |
