are Jet Packs against the laws of gravity?

everytime in a spy movie you would see some jet pact or flying shoes and as soon as the press a button they fly how would something like that put so much force on the ground that would push them upward without blowing up or something and if u are in the air and there is nothing to push on would the pack still fly or fall back to the ground...or would it just hover over it

Don't walk behind me i may not lead;Don't walk in front of me i may not follow;Just stand beside me and be my friend

The jet packs in the movies are exaggerated. There are real jet packs but they use alot of fuel, make alot of noise, and they can only hoist a rider to about 30 feet.

Learn all about jet packs at this site.

To answer the original question, no, the concept is not agaisnt the laws of gravity.

Gravity causes your body to accelerate down, and the jet pack causes an upwards acceleration, greater than 9.8m/s2

It uses thrust, the same as a airplane's engine.

Well when u think about it, missiles, rockets, jets, all the other kinds of projectiles or planes go upward. Are they against the law of gravity? No. its just what Mr. Gendou said, as long as it overcomes the force of gravity it will project someone upwards.

no they are not against the law of gravity...

they are against gravity, that's for sure.. ha ha.

the chairs in a fighter plane have them... they are to push the pilots out of danger...

has anyone seen that episode of mythbusters wherein they attached a jet in busters back? well, he went up...

the problem is designing such a contraption that would be ergonomically designed... the control of such a gadget is very hard... very dangerous and of course, very difficult..
