I have a DVD data disc that I burned somewhere else and the burn was complete. But why is it on my home new PC it shows up as blank? Some older data discs I burned before the same way show up but some not. What's wrong? |

By any chance would you be running, let's say, windows 2000 or earlier at home and burned them on a XP machine. Or by another chance XP at home and 95 or earlier(yea right) somewhere else. If either of the above is correct, never fear, it's just a translation error. From what I understand, which is very little, some of the newer burning software writes lead-ins differently than 98 or earlier reads them. This makes it seem like there is nothing in the drive. If you're burning old to new it's a little different, but basically the same end result. There's two options here: A) you find an older/newer(based on the problem) PC and burn the disc there. Note: You might be able to chage at the burning souce to an older style, but I doubt it. B) upgrade windows(don't do it unless it's a last resort) or get a mac. The data is on those disks, you just can't read them. I don't remember any patches for this problem, because I looked myself. If there are any you might find them though google, but I'm not going to tell you to chase after some wild-internet-file goose. |

No, both are XPs. At home and the other place. The one at home that cannot view anything is only about a month old. The other place has been like for couple of years already. Thanks anyways. I'll look more into the problem. So... that would mean that I'm stuck with full discs assumed to be blank?? |

Did you open the cd where you burnt it and verified if it works. I think it's the reader 'coz believe it or not i did burnt a single CD with two writes. Meaning the cd have two contents depending on the reader.. hehe amazing right... but i don't know how it works...

Yea, I put it back in and told it to make duplicates of it. If there were any burning errors, it couldn't continue the process. |
