char aznable clones

 Char Aznable is also responsible for spawning a series of Char Clones, characters based off similar characteristics to Char, in Gundam. That character usually serves the same purpose as Char in the story, as the primary rival of either the main character or a significant supporting character, sometimes also having blonde hair and is usually shrouded in mystery and a mask and sometimes has an extremist plan in mind (For example some of these "Char Clones" tried to force the people on Earth to migrate into space just like Char had tried to do). It is also a common theme for the "Char Clone" to be related to the female lead in some way. Sometimes the "clone" is the father, brother, former lover, etc. of the female lead. The term Char Clone is often used disparagingly, as if suggesting that the creative staff of the series lacked the creativity to come up with an original character and simply resorted to copying Char. * Zabine Chareux, and 'Iron Mask' aka Carozzo Ronah from Gundam F91 * Chronicle Asher from Victory Gundam * Schwarz Brüder, Master Asia, and Ulube Ishikawa from G Gundam * Lancerow Dawell, Jamil Neate from Gundam X * Zechs Merquise, the 'Lightning Count' from Gundam Wing * Harry Ord and Corin Nander from ∀ Gundam * Rau Le Creuset from Gundam SEED * "Alex Dino" aka Athrun Zala, and Neo Roanoke from Gundam SEED Destiny * Chief Haro, Deathscythe and Professor Gerbera from Superior Defender Gundam Force * Neyarl (Hal Vizardt / Vladi Zarth in the English version) from Gundam: True Odyssey (MS Saga) An actual DNA clone from Char Aznable appeared in the story Gaia Gear (original novel by Yoshiyuki Tomino). ... You're talking about wikipedia here... It can be edited by anyone, and because of some of the more crippling aspects of their policy, you realy can't say anything about a subject unless it's common knowledge. Interviewing sunrise, or even taking a few minutes to compare the similarities between the characters in more depth would be dismissed as 'original research' and dissalowed. But the 'Char Clone' phenomena is a widely acknowledged convention in Gundam. I'd say some of these comparisons are streatched though, Rau in particular doesn't have the same sort of rational motivation that Char does... Corrin's a major wild card too. |

actually they did...the char clone subject in wikipedia was authorized by tomino and he himself provided most of the information. i've got an e-mail from wikipedia. |

That would be a bit troublesome, as Sunrise owns Char, and the other characters on that list, not Tomino. The clone heading was added by someone anonymous without statements to the contrary, and I havn't seen anything in the discussion page that would suggest official permission was required (indeed, no one has contested the list, so such permission is unnessesary right now.) I'd like to see the e-mail you're talking about, at the very least, it would provide some entertaining information. |
