Anime in Other Languages

Hey, everyone. ^_^ I was just wondering if anyone has seen anime that's NOT dubbed in English and not with original Japanese dialogue. ^-^ What is it like then? I've never seen any (except Thai) and I've heard Spanish Sailormoon soundclips before. ^-^ I've always been interested in hearing it in French, Italian, German, Chinese, Korean or any other language other than Japanese or English. ^-^ So how goes it? Is the dubbing pretty good in your opinion? ^_^ How's the translation? ^_^ Thanks! ^-^ ~Tienko |

I have seen Slamdunk in korean... Actually I have seen several anime in korean before. I came from Korea and Korea culture was kinda like japanese, they have anime. I really liked Korean Dubs then I have seen English dubs or spanish... What can I say... I think something is missing when I hear English dubs or spanish dubs. Kinda like spirit(?) or effort(?) seems to be missing. Or may be they language it self doesn't seem to be fitting to their looks. Japanese people tries to make it sounds cute and everything but American dubs are like old. Well its my opinion so I can't say anything for more.
I live anime. Do you anime?

It's still dubbed, just not in english. XP I've seen Pokémon in Spanish and Italian, as well as Hamutaro in Italian. Most 4kids dubs have french and spanish.

I've seen a few episodes of Dragonball Z in Spanish. I didn't understand Spanish that well back then so I don't really remember how good it was. |

Heh? Tienko u're thai...cool i'm thai and i see the dubbed version of thai. but i don't watch it anymore, nowadays i only watch fan-sub anime. I watched Vietnamese dubbed version of Sailor Moon. Very terrible, only one person dubbed every character, and it's just terrible. But who cares i don't like Sailor Moon anymore.

I've heard anime in my vernacular, Filipino, and English. Terrible dubbing, really, except for Slamdunk. :)

i live in indonesia, and anime dubbed here are really bad. i also have animax, but they did horrible english dubs for the anime..

Well, most anime I've seen are dubbed version. I live in the Philippines , and the dubbing isn't really bad. :) I'm quite impressed with our dubbing compared to the dubbing of Animax. At Akira: Ah, so you're from Indonesia. Well, the dubbing of Animax isn't so bad in my opinion. They just needed MORE dubbers. Say, what do you think of the English version of Digimon on Animax? Our dubbers were actually the ones behind that anime. *sweatdrops* ======================================================== |

@ sei: well, yeah, they do need more dubbers, AND the english dub is so HORRIBLE.. i prefer watch AXN though they have the same anime being played over and over again ^_^;; and.. bout digimon english dubbed.. sorry to say it, but i think it's the worst.. *gomen ne! >_<;;*

The only good subbed anime in indonesia is Doraemon. But i think we indonesian are pretty lucky cuz we get heaps of anime instead of those american cartoons

The only well-dubbed anime on Animax are Midori Days (Midori No Hibi) and Chobits.. the rest just.. freak me out. I dont understand why they cant just put english subtitles or something.. (it's cheaper isnt it?) |

Yay! Me too, i'm thai. But really, I haven't watch anime in any other languages except Japanese and Thai ones. So I have no comment on that.

Honestly, there is no other language better than the originals. In our case Japanese is the best. So I have always watched animes in Japanese with the English subtitles of course. Dubed anime always seem to be missing something. Like what Jun-san said, the anime is like missing their souls/spirits. Aldough the dub voices might not be bad, but somehow the voice doesn't seem to fit the character. Even if I watch the anime in Cantonese which I prefer if there were no Japanese version, I still feel like some thing doesn't seem right. Now, even with the good language, the anime is often spoiled with terrible subtitles. InuYasha is a ver very good anime. However it was spoiled with the horrible english subtitles. |

| I think there are many dubbed anime depending on each country. Other national other than Japanese dont understand Japanese so they dubbed the anime into their prefered language. |

Erm, the anime series I used to watch when I was a kid were all dubbed, be it in English of Tagalog. ^^;; But then I was able to watch a series in its original language (Japanese with english sub), I started to become rather picky and didn't like watching dubs anymore. >.< It just doesn't compare to the original version! And sometimes the translations become all messed up since there are some words that doesn't have any equivalents in other languages. *sighs* Watching a tagalized version of Evangelion just confused me! X_X I think one reason why they dub anime is for people to understand it better... especially for those who does not know how to read yet or those who are rather lazy and just think of reading subs as too much work. *sighs* There really are people like that. >.< Another is because it's too costly to air the anime series in original Jap since they still have to pay an extra for the talent fee of the Japanese seiyuus. Or was that property rights?? I'm not sure what's it called but they really have to pay an extra for the voices of the Seiyuu. ^^  |

| I've seen part of Inu-Yasha in Chinese. Erm...oh and parts of the Cowboy Bebop movie in French. Both were very weird. |

i lived in korea for 2 yrs(just moved back to america last july) and i watched A LOT of anime in korean. There was Inuyasha, HYD, Full Moon wo sagashite, hare nochii guu, digimon, cowboy bebop(watched part of the movie in french too), gto, pitaten, doremi, detective conan, st. tail,fy, ah megami-sama, and a lot more but that's all i'm lazy enough to think about right now!!! for me, it was fun because i know some korean and so i understood some of what they were saying, but when i didn't understand, i just watched really carefully and tried to figure out what they were doing, when i was really hyper i use to come up with the stupidest idieas....ah, those were the days....

| English dubbed is TERRIBLE. So's Chinese. In China they use the same voice actors - are they even voice actors? - over and over again IN THE SAME ANIME! And they all have this not-so-natural tone of voice. *shudders* I watched Yu Yu Hakusho in Chinese and it was.... REALLY weird coz I only heard TWO voices for the whole cast. One for the guys, one for the girls. And on top of that, they didn't do the dubbing properly.... they just recorded on top of the original voices so you can only hear the BG music when they're not talking. Just.... don't watching anything dubbed in Chinese. |

i soo agree with you sammi!!! english dubbed is terrible!!! it sounds horrible!! unfortunately for me, i have to watch the english version!=( the japanese ones sound soo much better even though i have to read the subtitles but it is WORTH it!!! |
