Case Particles

Just wondering if yous can help me out... The Japanese language school place thingo I'm going to, the teacher said something about how there're 8 case particles, and that its important to know what they're used for, this is something the school teaches at a beginner's level.

The problem is, I kind of just cut into the intermediate level, so I was never taught about case particles, in fact, I can't even tell you what they are...

So just wondering, would any of yous know what they are? From what I remember, some of them include (h)e, (w)o, kara, de, ni... um, actually.. that's all I remembered...

I know there're a few threads already on what they do, but if possible, it'll help me greatly if you're to explain them here again...

Thanks for your time :)

Hmm...

I think (h)e へ was to move in a certain direction.
(w)o ã‚’ is used on direct verbs to join nouns (EX: feeling lonely; kodoku wo kanjiteiru).
Kara から was from a certain object.
De で is used for going to a location. However, ni can replace de. De is used when it's obvious what you will do.
Ni に is also used when you're going to a location, but it can also mean for. There are some places where it isn't obvious what you'll do. At a library, you can study, borrow, or read there.

  • は Used when indicating the topic of a sentence.
e.g. じてんしゃはあたらしい - The bike is new.
  • の Used to indicate relationship (usually possesive).
e.g. わたしのじてんしゃ - My bike (literally: bike of me).
  • が Similar to は, however they have different applications. They are typically not interchangable. It's sort of like the difference between "a" and "the" in english.
e.g. りんごがすき。 - (I) like apples (literally: apples are liked).
  • ã‚’ Used to indicate the direct object of a verb
    e.g. てがみをかく - Writing a letter
  • から Used to mark the begining (time or location) of an action. Can also mean "because."
    e.g. 3じから、じゅぎょうははじまる。 - Starting at 3:00 is class.
    e.g. わたしはひまから、かいものにいいた。 - Because I was free, I went shopping.
  • まで Used to mark ending (time or location) of an action
    e.g. 3じから5じまで、じゅぎょうがある。 - From 3:00 to 5:00, I have class.
  • で Used to denote the location an action happened or the means in which an action was carried out.
    e.g としょかんでべんきょうをする。 - At the libary, I studied.
  • に Used to indicate a direction (for example, when going to a place).
e.g. さかなやにいく - I am going to the fish store.
  • へ Used to indicate general direction. Used often when giving directions.
e.g. としょかんへいいて。 さかなやはみぎがわにある。 - Go towards the library, The fish store is on the right.

These are the most common particles.
