I know our sun is one of many stars in our galexy, and that our galexy is one of many in the universe. But where are we? Is our galexy near the navel of the universe, or is it on the outer edge. In terms of the milky way, we are on an outer spiral arm....but what about the universe itsself? It would be silly to think of ours as the central galexy, obviously it isnt. Maybe there is no center to the universe? it has been supposed that the universe is a convex-shaped funnel that folds in on itsself. If anyone has any information that could help me understand this, please reply. |

I'm sorry but I personally think that is a question that our brains cannot understand. It will never be known to us. Even if we travle to the ends of the universe, will it really be the ends? Many theorys my freind. Who knows we could be nothing but an atom in another source of life. and inside all "our" atoms lives more universus. You can always puzzle ideas out of the brain that will never be awnsered. Sorry I couldn't reply correctly. -Kamize

Kamize: please register for and use your account. if you are a fish in a swimming pool, it is hard to see the sides of the pool because the water is murky. there should still be a way of determining your relative position in the pool, even if you cannot see the edges clearly. |

What I mean is that their are millions of ways you can think about it. You could think of it in your own way, but who knows? The universe could be neverending. If you say that neverending is impossible, your wrong. Pie is neverending. Limitless space, blackness, leading to nothingness. If we could travle the speed of light than I think we would be able to travle places we could not "of course." I once heard somone say scientists have develpoped a way to slow down light by sending it threw dimonds. I don't think it's possible becuase that would mean your changing the speed of light... Ps: I'm a amature flash animator, I think i'm going to make a flash about your site, but don't trust me. I give up ez. But i'll try to make a small thing you can put on your site :)

Okay, the way I see it, is that the universe is a Circle. nothing more, nothing less. it is obviously uncertain how big the circle is, but we know that if you go one way, around and around, you will eventually come back to your original destination. I mean, when you think of it, everything in this universe is spherical, the earth, the planets in our solar system, stars, and galaxies have a circular shape to them, even the black holes are round. I personally think that everything has a pattern to it, like, history repeats itself and things like that. So the universe, to me, is obviously circular. And on track of the PI theory, nothing is infinite. everything ends at one point in time, even if it goes on for so long, that our minds assume that it will never end. A circle may seem like it never ends, but it ends unto itself, to begin again, in the same path. Žq•ª Heaven doesn't want me and hell's to afraid I'll take over! |

Kami: i have a couple flash things on my newgrounds profile i want to make something clear: photons light CAN slow down. the "speed of light" is actually a measurement of the speed at which light travels in a perfect vacuum. proof that the velocity of light can change is the fact that light can "bounce" off reflective objects. proof that light can slow down is the fact that light from distant stars is more of a "reddish" color than it originally was when it was formed (inside a star). scientists have been able to slow down a photon of light, using a very powerful magnet. the reason pi is a non-terminating decimal is the fault of our number system. the number pi is a finitie number, but it is not a rational number. |

How about planes of ascension? Multiple lower planes leading up into greater planes, thus ascension. Think about it. |

glad i can help ^_^ i think its a shame that under 1% of the population of the world truly understands Einstein's Theory of Relativity. |

Also if we are in a plane as I believe then there is no end to it. That is the definition of a plane. Also most major religions think of heaven or paradise. This paradise is a form of ascension because you are going from one plane to another. |

Well, this page shows everything we can see at the moment, the visible universe. Spanning 14 billion lightyears in every direction, making it a sphere. Why 14 billion lightyears, caus thats the longest time it took for some star somewhere to shine it's light to us. There probably is a lot more to see, and one day we'll see it because if you think of it, every year we can see one lightyear farther. Now, no one probably knows where we are located in this universe, since we can't see the boundaries (and there are boundaries).

Another fact is that the universe is still expanding, we know that by measuring the distance of our galaxy to another and after a certain period of time see that we are drifting farther away from each other. If we state that the Big Bang happened to have "exploded" in all directions with the same amount of power, making the universe a nice sphere (this can be completely false, I'm just making an hypothesis) we can sort of calculate our position by measuring our distance to the galaxies around us, and those lying far far away. And then by the distance we drifted apart, this beeing higher for the galaxies that lay far from us and near the "edge", and lower for the galaxies near the "center" of the universe. Voila, those are my 2?‘. And I'm sorry if there are some spelling mistakes in there, but English is not my native language. ^_^;

Re: Our place in the universe

That depends on which theory about the universe you believe in. ('Believe in' is the only suitable phrase here because we don't actually know). If you think the universe is infinite, then we are simultaneously at any point in it, (because there is an infinity of space all around us) and so any set of coordinates would have to be defined from some nearby star. This would not tell us where we are. If the universe is finite then we could define where we were if not for another problem: the universe is expanding faster than the speed of light, and in all directions, meaning we can never see the edges and so say if we are closer to one edge than another |

Re: Our place in the universe

There is only one theory: Big Bang Scientist have determined the our place on the universe by looking at distanciation speeds of stars near us. Using complicated math n stuff they determined we're about in the middle. About Big Bang: Mater attracts matter, if the speed of the starts which was caused by the big bang decreases because of 'gravitational' pull the universe will stop expanding and will shrink over time thus creating a new Big Bang :) |

Yes the universe IS finite. |

We may never know where we are in the universe because the universe is so vast and we are not even specks of dust. To assume that we will know it in our life time s is also slightly arrogant. But then again it is human nature to look for meaning to the hows and whys. Sorta takes the fun outta life but we are a curious people. |

I often wonder now a days where my place is in the world. But to think of where I stand in the universe is impossible. In that point of view I am merely a speck in time and our galaxy. I don't mean to sound all pessimistic and stuff, but I am being logical here. We are all just merely specks in time, which makes one's life even more special and interesting because our life is so short and precious. That's why I can't wait for gendou to get back home! (which btw is this month)so I can not miss another in-person moment of his life. :P ^_^

My thoughts as said by Louis Carrol: In Wonderland, they lie, Dreaming as the days go by, Dreaming as the summers die, Ever drifting down that stream, Lingering in the golden gleam, Life, what is it but a dream? There is no "place" in the universe, this is something that you make for yourself. When all is said and done, and your on your death bed, only you can say whether or not your life has been meaningful. Make the best of it in the best way you can, its all you can do.
