Possible solution to hosting problem

Hello Mr. Gendou, I noticed on the main page you said you were having bandwidth limitation problems, and I randomly had what may be a good idea:

Instead of doing direct downloading of individual songs (which I know is easier), you might be able to try having a sort of torrent client program set up with gendou being the main seed. Also, if you had songs together in packets, (like all from one anime, or by artist, etc.) then not only would it cut down on overall bandwidth usage since others would be helping seed, it could also make it easier to get several that people will probably want at once.
Now, I know that it will probably make downloads slower, but they'll still be reasonable from my understanding, and although there's the problem of when new songs come in, there could be perhaps the newest and most recent songs available for direct download and later be added to their respective torrents for all the later people with maybe a separate small column/log somewhere telling which torrents just got updated.

I know this may seem bit complicated, and people would have to figure out torrents (all 4 of them who wouldn't know considering nearly everyone on the anime forums at the very least would tell everyone else, lol), but it would cut down on the bandwidth usage quite a bit, and maybe you could have some sort of seeding helper counter (like upload points) er something.

(I've got some more ideas pertaining to this one, I'm just stopping there for now since I don't know if it'd be worth considering or not)

If anyone else has any ideas or suggestions to help the bandwidth issue please post away!

i was thinking of posting this, but you beat me. you would need to make sure that the tracker or whatev blocks people that aren't logged in, and puts people on parole for low share ratios. otherwise you'll end up with a bunch of dead torrents.

Actually you could password protect it and only people who have accounts here have a password. Plus, if you can set it up so it allows multiple passwords, you could enter in your personal password (everyone would have their own) so it'd know who you were. Or, what could be done is have everyone register a specific IP/Hostname for their torrent program (utorrent allows it and I think Azereus does too) and keep track of it that way. It'd be easy to make a program to keep track of download and upload rates that way.

Well, I think we could come up with more ideas or possiblities if we could talk to gendou himself..... He'd know more of the specifics for what would and wouldn't be reasonable.

......Actually,
I just realized something.
California has a 3 hour time difference between my home and there.... I've got 50 Gigabytes of free hard drive space doing nothing (that I don't intend to use myself anytime soon, and I've got a 6MB/s internet connection that I tend to have a lot of leftover bandwidth even when playing games....... I could help host/seed a large portion of those songs! I wouldn't mind helping the general public! I'd only be a secondary seed, but hey it'd help at least some right? Plus I'm sure if you ask around there would be SEVERAL people who'd love to help too!

(I rarely turn my computer off, and the time difference would mean that most people would be getting on while I'm either getting off, at school, or asleep, so I'd just leave my computer on)

Yes, the time difference is quite significant, especially when a large portion of the users are located in Asia. There aren't as many US east coast users as I would have thought.

And since they're on the other end of the planet, the busiest times there would be practically the least busiest times here on the east coast. That way while I'm just barely getting up in the morning (the time when my bandwidth peaks around) it'd be able to seed more. Heck, once you upgrade your connection I'm sure gendou would be more willing to give you (psoplayer) some of the songs/files/etc. to seed since you're a mod.

I don't know if this is illeagal or not...
But I vaaguely recall a hosting site saying they will take runescape or game gold for hosting space...
If this is true, would this help?

How can i send money in though the mail, is this allowed? Gendou MUST live!!!

1. gendou.com does not do torrents, not now, not ever
2. gendou.com does not do passwords, except for login
3. gendou.com only uses reliable hosts, not personal connections
4. i have all the hosting issues worked out, read the news on the home page
5. gendou.com will not die. it may get amputations now and then, but it will not die!
