Would ppl like to discuss some ideas or whatever on games. Since I will be going into Game Design (just started college-3yrs to go) Im curious what ppl think of how games should be or such. Or even ideas for a new type of game. And if you want credit for an idea and it sounds pretty cool and IF i ever use it please e-mail me your full name and stuff so I can get it in the game and give you credit. I am SERIOUS about this, I WILL give you credit. I want to make the best games possible, and to do that I need help from people who PLAY them. It may take a while to use the ideas and if it is already done by then I will still give you credit for it. |

im working on my own game currently, as a matter of fact. what kind of game are you wanting to make? what language are you coding it in? my game will be an MORPG in 2-d (maybe 3-d eventually) the server is being coded in C++ and the client will be in VisualBasic (cause im lazy) |

How about a game where the New world Order is taking over America and your a citizens fighting the take over with other fellow citizens. But make the game fact based. For instance, there really is a New World Order and have fun things exposing the truth to games. I would make this a FPS.

Okay, my game is in C++ and I do have Visual basic but I have to RECODE all of it to make it work. I have it were you can input a name, pick a race- demon human or angel, pick a gender, battle, shop, rest, use items, check stats, lvl up, and save and load. in the battle I have it randomly spit out 1-3 monsters depending on your char lvl. However I only have 1 list....hehehe ^_^ When you lvl it randomly ups each of your stats but I might change to were you can customize. I still have a LONG way to go ^_^ |
Re: Curious....Im going into game design....and....

Copy Zelda 64. Basically what I like in my games are swords(not guns), castles(not spaceships) and real time(not turnbased). Plenty of different, unique monsters to kill. Many different areas to explore. Many different items, weapons, and armor to grab. Many classes and charaters to customize. No linear crap. And fill it with love and peace. I really like zelda because the world is a fun world with intersting charaters. Forget the bland faceless shop keeps and townspeople that look all the same, give every npc charater. Like in Zelda. Not just a random kill/level up spree. Mazes, dungeons, puzzles, and make it so you use skill and brain. Like Zelda. Don't go half assed on the music, make it good. Like Zelda. Make it pretty. Like Zelda. Go make another Zelda game. Im getting tired waiting for this damn one to come out. |

Tanx for replying!!! You must REALLY like Zelda. lol Zelda is good though. I will have to keep your advice in mind, thanks. However I would have to do the game ALL ON MY OWN to make sure everything is JUUUUUST right. Normally you would work in teams, and you would do just one aspect of the game. But.....that would be so AWSOME if I made a game by myself.....yes....ALL by MYSELF.....yes.... |

OMG OMG I have the COOLEST idea for a game! but I have no idea how you'd program it. It'd be really hard. So, basically, what it is is an MMORPG/city sim/1st-person shooter and there would also be some RTS elements~ The story is that 1) a large population of humans crash landed on a new planet (like in Trigun or) 2) the world is post-apocalyptic - it doesn't really matter, the point is that most of the human population is in stasis. So, you make a character and you pop out of this really old spaceship type thing, and your only tools are the clothes you're wearing, nanobots in your body that repair wounds and in the long-term could maybe upgrade your physical status by making stronger muscles or bones or whatever + the most important, your nano-lathe (which I just copied from Total Annihilation). Your nano-lathe is what makes everything go round. Basically what it does is cast a hologram of the building or machine you want to make, then you spray large amounts of nanobots on it which arrange themselves on it and build it. Problem is, you'd still need the base elements, energy and a blueprint. Now, obviously the nano-lathe would come pre-packed with some of the most useful kinds of machines and buildings, but the really cool thing is that you'd be able to design your own. This is where I think it'd be hard to program... maybe you could have like basic motors/plastic muscles tissues for movement which you'd strap onto structures like beams or cylinders that have a preset weight strength or durability or something, along with things like lasers or explosives. So, like, you could build your own mecha and stuff, along with hand-held weapons, factories and housing. And then, if you wanted, you could sell the blueprints of machines that you designed. Of course, to make a lser gun, for instance, you'd need like half a carat of ruby, x grams of steel or other suitable metal, copper to transmit energy along with some kind of insulator, and the energy to run your nano-lathe and power up the battery. (what do they make batteries out of, anyway? I haven't thought of it before >.>) For the metals and rubies and stuff, you would make like mining drones or something, and for the energy, you would have a built-in solar generator, and could design other things like windmills or fission reactors and stuff. The world itself would basically start out a clean slate - no buildings except for the one that houses the people (which would probably be guarded by some internal security system or something). You would have various resource nodes around, though, which you could scan for. Eventually the idea is that the players would design their own towns based around these important resource areas - but, of course, you could always just kill the players in the area and steal the stuff for yourself, which is why they would have to join guilds to fight off bandits and protect their stuff. The fighting, of course, would all be done in 1st-person, so there would be a high value placed on personal skill, because you wouldn't be able to just level-up or something (although you could make more powerful weapons if you wanted to). The more you think about it, the more possibilities there are. You could do just about ANYTHING~ The RTS element would come in when you start to fight middle to large-scale battles. Whoever was in charge, let's say, would have like a huge projector (which you would have to build) that would allow him to direct the battle as it goes on and stuff. The projectors could also be used to, say, put up a town bulletin board or something. One of the things that I like about this setup is that, unlike FFXI's Mog House, you could invite your friends to your apartment. It'd be so cool! That's my $0.02. Plus change. I've been considering an idea that came to me a few years ago for a story line concept for an RPG. The basis of the game is that early in time, humans were immortal, but the gods, feeling that humans would eventually forget the difference between a god and a man placed a curse on the human race. This curse caused every person to be born with a demon living within them which slowly grows and eats away at that person's life force. This is the cause of aging and death. Some people are born with stronger or weaker demons within themselves, so they might end up living to either a very old age or dying at a young age. Any magical abilities of the characters are achieved by drawing off the power of the demon within each character, so the type of magic one can use is determined by the type of demon within each character. Thanks to the demons, the powers people are capable of has allowed their civilization to become very advanced and drastically improved the quality of life for everyone. This setting is one that would allow a game incredible depth. As I imagined it, the hero and the villain are both unique in that the hero was, for unknown reasons (will be revealed during the course of the game), born without a demon, leaving him without any sort of power or ability but he never ages, and the villain has been born with a demon in a different way. The villain actually feeds off the life of the demon within him, in an opposite way of anyone else. This allows him to become incredibly strong as time passed, and, he would also be immortal. Living off a demon's life force also corrupted his soul and made him irreversibly evil. Once he exhausts the life force of the demon within himself, but not at the start of the game, he learns to extend his power to absorb life off demons in those around him to further strengthen himself. He finds that his body and soul have become dependant on demon's life force and begin to decay without it. Any demon he feeds off of in a person kills its host before it finally is exhausted. The hero's quest is inspired by his own condition. He envisions a world where no human is cursed by a demon and can once again live forever. He embarks a quest to find a way to remove demons from a human, or, better yet, lift the curse altogether. Now, this would be a problem for the villain as he lives off the demons within people, providing for a unique twist on the typical RPG storyline: the villain actually seeks out the hero to stop his quest as opposed to vice versa. There! That's a good basis for an RPG, including both storyline, setting, and an ability system. |

Re: Curious....Im going into game design....and....

I'm as about as artiscally useful as a mob(I can totally destroy other game company you don't like).......but my brohter is a genius!!! He has this big binder with everything he needs for his games(i.e. script/dialouge background layout and actually he tests the games in his mind because he is too lazy to study how to do C++ programming) I'll have to show him this thread........but be prepared because he made like ten of them and actually took time to write all the information down about them,so be prepared for a like tengillionmillion paragraphs of text. I'll ask him to post them if you like. I think in one of his games the people of the future use "eternium" which is like a d rug you use to extend your life. The d rug is used like c rack and something happens to somebody and, well I never read the rest. All of his characters seem pretty interesting though. As far as any of my stupid ideas go...............well i'm not very thinkative in that way so lets talk about the American gaming economy!!! "Gaming Master*cough*yea right*cough*" Kotuso says:"I do believe you said that you wanted to make good games and show that America has good game developers too. To start you'll have to make an impression in America first. More jocks/preps/the cool guys are more interested in games now. Its now just for nerds and wierd kids anymore. Try make your first games less centered around myth/magic and more centered around sports/shooters. Even if you would h ate to make such games genres as thoughs. People like to communicate so............make sure they are online and that people can easily contact each other. Video game cams:just like web cams, but for games-Jocks/preps will love these. After becoming succesful(hopefully) get down with your creative self!!! Make fun games spawned from your creativity and have a blast making them. Just remember "Your making them for the customers, not yourself." Ship them to other countries and get rich or die tryin.(sorry just had to put that in there) Well that is what I think. |

Salutations, this is Kotuso the gentle wind's brother. If you want to reply to me by name on this forum, just call me WINGS. I have been interested in game creation since I was six years old and the only deveation was this time when I was eleven and wanted to be a comic strip man. Anyway, after much consideration, I have finally put all my ideas from the last twele of so years and started to compile them into, you predicted it, 10 video games. As for actual video creation (as opposed to conception) I only really know how to use this system called Poser 6 to create create characters. That's plently enough of an introduction. The series is largely RPG, with exceptions being a real-time game and the eight being a stradegy based games similar to Fire Emblem or Advanced Wars. The games series is named Millennium Dream. The first few games are interconnected loosely. The story as a whole comes together by the eight one, and every thing is connected by the tenth. Each one has an individual story, different characters, a different battle system, and a different advancement system. Since Sero is asking for ideas here, I can share the plans for some of my charcters and battle systems with you. A character I am fond of when it comes to sheer creativity is one from my second game. His name is Thorn, and he is a semi-notorious criminal. Located on his outer wrists and along his back are hooks, fishing hooks, protruding from the body. Underneath the skin in those areas, he has inserted fishing lines. He uses the fishing lines, as well as other weapons, to capture enemies and provide them with an unescapable . He also has a few tatoos, and they aren't just for looks. When he was younger, he decided that he would simplely stop feeling physical pain somehow. To do this, he got some deep tatoos, so deep and so accurate that he was able to cuts off nerves in his brain and body that allowed him to feel anything. Numb over his entire body, he can use his fishing hooks without pain drawback. On a deeper level, Thorn is somewhat of a coward, but he does seek unremmittingly to change that about himself. His present however, keeps him from doing so, and he unremmittingly fails to change himself. Thorn finds bleak hope when he joins the other characters at the time; Zakk, Thiex and Aya in an attempt to dissolve the Ektreteka Empire. His hope turns whiter however, when he and the rest of the party receive their half-divine mission. (That half-divine mission is confidential for now. That was a substantial amount... ;{ If anyone wants to hear more, post for more. Kotuso will bring me in when that happens. |

cool, of course the will be things that people would not like to talk about, so that is okay if people do not want to share some info. I am just hoping that by sharing info, more game ideas can be created and we can later use them to create awsome games. to WINGS, wow 10 games cool, i only have one, and it isnt that good that I know of...and I get side tracked to woek on it sometimes.hehe ^_^ I have heard of poser program, but I have also heard that all the characters kinda look the same. I am going to school for game design, the 3rd semester, tr-mester or whatever starts the 18th this month. if you are interested in hearing about my game let me know, i will try and see if i can find the info sheets(I do have some of it memorized, just a bit) I wanted to make games since 10th grade, so about 15-16yrs old. I have played games since I was 4yrs. So I thought, i like to play them, how awsome it would be to make them? That is some sheet character creation there, awsome. well i need to go, byes. |
Re: Curious....Im going into game design....and....

WINGS again. Go ahead and post your game mechanics and whatnot. If you do that, I and anyone else can give you some suggestions. By the by, Poser character do all look similar, but that's only until you add hair and facial features. I'm still working on how to get the hair right. My art teacher is letting me take a class all by myself on how to use Poser (the catch is...I don't get school credit.) Maya is something else I've had some (and I mean the small amount by some) of experience. Kotuso has more experience than me at Maya...I'm shure you've use Maya at your college, because it's about all they use at Savannah College of Art and Design, the college I plan to attend. So just post stuff about your game in general, and I'll do what I can to help you. |

Re: Curious....Im going into game design....and....

What you need to do is to make sure that the dialogues are short but interesting, include a few minigames, try not to make the game easy, keep the introduction story short and the most important thing: it should have a kick ass ending. |
Re: Curious....Im going into game design....and....
|
WINGS IN WINGS IN WINGS IN WINGS IN WINGS IN WINGS IN WINGS IN From what I can discern, I think Prinn is the most interesting. Characters with glasses are favorites of mine, but I can't say I have many though...But that brings up a thought. One of my characters, who is a son of another character, uses "magical contacts". That idea was inspired by a dream. He simply puts the spell-specific contacts in, and he can he use that type of spell. He can also mix two types of spells by having, per say, a water contact in his left eye and a Forest contact in his right. That idea was inspired by dream i had. Very groovy. But now to my point. Something that can make your character's more interesting in general is to give them an outlandish personalilty tweack/mental condition/odd dietary/wierd physical ability/physical handicap turned strength/opposite x- u a l orientation/ etc. With the amount of main characters you have, I'm sure you can pile on more bits of their personality. I look foward to the story, ciao. WINGS OUT WINGS OUT WINGS OUT WINGS OUT Kotuso in My brother uses too much fancy tawkin. |
