I thought the movie was pretty descent. I'm pretty sure to some extent it will satisfy fans of Initial D. I consider myself a big fan, and I understand why it had some of it's flaws since it was almost a 2 hour movie and they couldn't fit everything. I mean, are we ever going to see a Spider-man movie with Gwen Stacy? I say like live action comic book movies, live action adapted mangas aren't going to have every trait of it's original comic, but I think certain justifiable changes are necessary to fit the laws of (movie) time and some other stuff. So whatever changes this movie had, I found were understandable to some extent. The movie I thought went really fast but to a point where they could place in a lot of things from the manga and yet have it make a lot of sense for the sake of developing the plot. I saw it at a friend's house, but he won't tell me how he got it. It was DVD quality and everything but with HK quality subs. I'm pretty sure some torrent sites have it but I'm just too lazy to get it right now. Anyway, I'll review the movie. Those who are familiar with the anime/manga, it is pretty much the same set up. Takumi is delivering Tofu for his fater, Bunta and he naturally becomes a pro at it (they do a back story on the water too) and it eventually leads him to the racing world when he passes Nakazato (Keisuke in the anime and manga). Sadly, Keisuke is not in the movie and neither is Iketani or Kenji are in it. Neither are Shoji Shingo or Impact Blue. I could swear the fat kid on the Night Kids with the buzz bleached hair is Kumai from the live action Gokusen (the best live action adapted manga ever, even suprassing GTO's live action in my opinion). Anyway, I thought it was an ok movie. I still can't believe it beat Star Wars Episode III in 5 Asian countries (China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and Malaysia). As for the Emperors, I've never been too fond of them. The get ups were weird but I'm glad what whappened to them in the movie. I didn't like how they did Bunta's character. I don't think he makes good comic relief. He's not the bad ass that he is in the manga and anime. And I swear Natsuki was dubbed. Or I just didn't know Suzuki An could speak Chinese. I thought Jay Chou did a descent job as Takumi. I'm pretty sure this will defenitley help his acting career and is a good start for him. I'm pretty sure this will storm Japanese box offices in December. Anyway, this movie does blow Fast and the Furious out of the water like 100000000000x. From the water to Pluto is how good this movie is in comparison to it.

I've already posted bout this movie in another initial d thread.... my summary is that the movie SUCKED.. i mean the battles were cool and all but the acting is horrible... jay chou is a fag btw i am a initial d fan too and it was very disappointing, what the fuck were the directors thinkin when they made this? o and music? what happened to the eurobeats? they replaced with gay shitty ass music that didnt fit at all |

I don't really follow Jay Chou that much. I heard he was a popular singer. I noticed his voice was the ending theme and I didn't like the ending theme at all. I also noticed not only is there not Eurobeat in the movie, I didn't see AVEX trax in the ending credits. What ever happened to BoA playing Natsuki? I don't think Suzuki An is that much of a great actress (I'm still trying to figure out if she was dubbed over). I think she's mediocre at best. She's cute, but not hot. I think Nicholas Tse should have had a role in this movie. I think he would have been a much better Ryousuke. Kind of funny that Ryousuke is supposed to be older than Takumi, but Jay Chou is a year older than Edison Chen.

i brought the dvd, but i haven't got the chance to watch it yet. according to my friends' opinions, the movie sucked. but who knows, i have to watch it for myself later. if the movie really sucked, believe me, i'll come back and lay curse on Jay for good XP. Jay doesn't even make a good takumi from what he sings and how he looks (he sings the movie's theme song for goodness sake > < ! and yes, that really suck! and i mean it, it's not the almighty initial d eurobeat at all > < ) |

Man, I mostly got into the anime because of the music since I was a big Para Para Paradise fan at the time my friend first introduced me into the anime. But later, the cars grew on me. Prior to Initial D, I was mostly into European (mostly Italian and German) cars, Initial D taught me the worth and awesomness of Japanese imports.

BoA was going to play Natsuki? That would be the only reason I would actually want to SEE this movie... Anyways for all you Gay(Jay) Chow fans, sorry to say but I hate the guy. Any half decent actor could play the role of Fujiwara much better than him. The way he played it makes you wanna go gay bashing. |

Nah, how can u not dub over Suzuki Ann's voice? She's Japanese, no way would she be able to speak Chinese. And the film is aimed at Chinese audiences so I dont think they would get the Hong Kong actors to speak in Japanese instead. Though it would be funny hearing them talk in Japanese without dubbing. But yeah, the soundtrack was a disappointment as was the new play on Bunta. But the movie did touch on what happend between Bunta and Takumi's mother, the anime didnt even talk about it. And yeah, i got the dvd quality with the bad subbing. I can say, even though I dont know much Mandarin, that the person who did the subbing sucks. Some of the sentences didnt even make sense or could have been translated better. eg. It's 'corners' and not 'curves' or 'turn'. And there was the part near the end where the subtitle went "and enters the house phone". I was like WTF?!! |

Meh, I've seen much more terrible subs on my HK Gundam DVDs. I wonder if the Japanese version will have Miki Shin'ichiro dubbing over Jay Chou. His voice would so not fit him. I remember in the Japanese dub of the Hokuto no Ken live action movie (there are only two reasons to watch this movie: Big Van Vader and Dante Basco), Kamiya Akira dubbed over Kenshiro and I believe the rest of the anime cast were also in the dub. And Kamiya Akira actually admitted the movie sucked.

Ha! i finally watched my dvd. and by my surprise, i liked it ^^ and by even more surprise, i actually liked the new Bunta XD! he's way more active and funnier than the original version. but yeah, Jay sucked at playing Takumi that's a given, but it wasn't as bad as everyone said. and oh yeah~ Suzuki An is dubbed alright. the dvd i got only has chinese sub, so i'm not sure how the english subs are going. but oh well, glad that i'm chinese ^^6 |

I saw the Chinese version (that is the real version, yes?). I havent' seen all of it yet, but from what I've seen it's a bit different from the series. Itsuki and Cole? have morphed into one person, on top of that the son of the gas station guy. And Takumi's father is much more abusive. I was kind of surprised. The english subs...or at least the ones I have suck. In one line Itsuki yells, "I want to eat people now!" O-o This took place after Itsuki told Takumi about Natsuki going off to hotels with older guys, and Takumi kind of attacked him and messed up his lunch. I guess he ws saying he just wanted to eat or something...but with subs like that it's hard to tell. X_x |

| although i nv watch it, but ever since i heard the lead actor is going to b jay... i koe since den it will spoil the movie. i m not asking for much where the actor got 2 b tat gd but not tat lousy where a guy cant even open his mouth n sing ( he becoming a prince of RB is still unbelievable). any way the movie is already have like 99% chinese cast is a downside , like watching batman return in 99% indian or malay cast,but to have jay on the set is totally out of the question. |

| Hey Michishirube, it's IKETANI, NOT Cole damn it. DONT use the US companies given names, use that proper names for gods' sake. Yeah, as I said before, the subs for the mandarin version just suck. Was trying to redo the subbing script myself but i only did half and now i'm busy wif uni so I didnt finish it. But by the time I finish uni for the year and still no one have put up the right subbing, then I'm give out mine. At least I watched the anime itself and know what to put in even if I only roughly know what was said in Mandarin. I'm Cantonese in dialect so there's a difference in the pronounciation of the word but should do fine. |

I still think it was a good idea that they talk about Takumi's mother. Shes not even mentioned in the anime or manga that much or what ever happens to her. And there is more logical reasons for Natsuki's relationship with the Benz driver.
