If u consider Einstein Theory about relativity and if u have in mind concepts like light speed and if u think that time is not the same if u travel in light speed, then u can believe in something called destiny?. If u go to a distant point in the universe with light speed, it's supposed the time goes really fast for an observer in the initial point (lets call it A) but for the traveler the time goes normal, so while in the point A for the observer passed 20 years, for the person in the other point ( in this case B), only passed some hours. So i wonder if doing that we are not breaking the basic rule in the life: That we can't see the future. That is not logical since the traveler is 20 years ahead, so for us he's "living our future". I know that all of this would be a fact if we could travel with light speed, but since we know that light goes by the universe with that speed (and other things like quasars), then i guess we should think if the "destiny" word is something we should believe in. you made several errors in your interpretation and application of special relativity, which i will correct: Event A: I leave you behind on Earth, traveling 0.9XX*c (reference frame S, as fast as my space ship will go) relative to the Earth (reference frame S`). Event B: I am in some far of reach of the galaxy (30 light years from Earth). My S` clock says 1 year has passed since I embarked on my journey. I know you were in S, so I compute the time duration you have experienced using the Lorentz Transformations in my head because I am just that bad ass. Gosh, by the time you hear from me, you'll already be an 80 year old man! Oh well, I send out a message to earth saying "Happy 50th birthday". Event C: You receive my message on your 80th birthday, a little late. But, you know it's the thought that counts, since I did send it to you 30 years ago. See, you are smart, know my location at Event B, and are able to calculate the time it takes for said message to travel 30 light years. Your clock is correct in your reference frame. My clock is correct in my reference frame. We agree on the time it takes for the message to be sent. Destiny plays no role in our space-fairing lives, but Special Relativity sure does! Now, if you had invented a new kind of pie at age 40, and sent me the recipe via space mail, it would have gotten to me some time AFTER you invented and sent it! In no way would I be living in your FUTURE because it is your PRESENT when it HAPPENS! Sure, I have less wrinkles and am able to enjoy the pie more than you do, since my young intestines can accommodate much more sugar and sweets than yours which are aging. Sucks for you!! |

I'm not going into paradoxes created by time travel, but I do believe that physical laws govern everything in the universe, and therefore I believe that everything is 100% predictable. However, I don't believe anyone can ever figure out all those laws and make those 100% predictions because the universe is too vast and some of the stuff going on in it, especially the stuff inside the heads of people can never be understood. So, I believe I have an inevitable destiny and a fate and all that, but in practice it means nothing. |
