What do you think anime is?

Or better yet, what is it that you consider anime. Easy question. Cuz everyone has different answers. And one of them made me realize that maybe Gendou did ban me unfairly.

Well i dont care those official definitions. I think anime is FUN! Its a HOBBY! Its a way to kill TIME! Its way to laugh and cry at the SAME time! Its way to escape too. I feel that if im tired to living, waking up every morning, going out to cold world, meeting people who doesnt like me, working, sitting, doing nothing, anime is a way to feel some warmth. So i escape this world into the colorfull world of animation, and i can feel such many feelings trough those pictures. There is millions of opinions, yea, but dont go to say something is unfair, there just might be millions of opinions about that too! ;]   |

haha... yes true... sorry... i got used to "official" definitions since people always compare Anime to American Cartoons (which in majority concentrated on wholesome family fun...) Anime, of course has alot to offer to the people... I always believed that there is a Show for every person out there... Sure... he/she may not like some of them... but im pretty sure there is at least one that he/she would like... Since my dad gave me my first beta-recordings of Anime (and Sentais)... I... at first considered it as a "show for kids"... i was so wrong... I found lots of different shows... Violent, Serious, Historic, you name it... Never have i felt so... "involved" with a story with Anime... Never have i Laughed... have i cried... with it... It was truly my life changing experience... In reality... I could never think of living without it... it has become part of my life... im 22 years old... and i dont think i see myself with it... Me without Anime is like... Me Without my soul Kneel Before the Great and Benevolent Cow! |

Well is it so bad, not to get rid of anime? Creators need someone to watch their works ;] And if you (or anyone) think your too old to watch anime.. Its the same if you would think your too old to have fun!! Theres nomore room for those BORING adults who think they should be smart and calm, and leave things they liked before because theyre nomore fit for those things <_< Ynh, ill do things im intrested as long as im intrested ^__^ |

True... True... But you see Anime is regardless "Considered" by many as "a kids show" but of course thats wrong... I believe firmly that it is fine to watch Anime even when you are older (as i said earlier: "Anime, of course has alot to offer to the people... I always believed that there is a Show for every person out there... Sure... he/she may not like some of them... but im pretty sure there is at least one that he/she would like...") I was merely generalizing both Young and old, Men and Women, etc... I had a time to think one time... when some people always say to me... "Why are you watching Cartoons?(i was watching Sailor Moon) thats for kids" I showed them Fist of the North Star and left them hanging... Still that made me think of the term "Cartoon" and "Anime"/"Japanimation" Kneel Before the Great and Benevolent Cow! |

Sad, but true. Why should we give everything for kids!! i whanna some goodies too!! And your point about theres anime for everyone.. i think that too! but how to make people find that one they like, if they wont even consider about watching it? World is complicated <_< and ill thank gods from that! Its more intresting ;] And i wanted to say that to you ^^ dont feel quilty from watching anime, if its your thing, let it be! |

Im not guilty... Im proud... it was part of what i am today... and it will always will be... (Truth be told... im not the oldest with this hobby here... i know a couple of people twice my age in Anime and Gaming... Hahahaha!) Kneel Before the Great and Benevolent Cow! |

*giggles* I feel so happy with the response you two have given me. Let me ask something quick. If the concept wasn't originally japanese, but the company went to Japan, and contracted a company to do the series for them.... is it still considered "anime"? (Gendou apparently lack this info, since the songs are in Japanese and were composed by Yoko Kanno. *isn't very happy about it*)

| The concept isn't japanese... You mean the story is not originally from japan? Well, as long as you publish it in japan and is created by japanese companies, i think it's still anime... |

well... technically it could be... i mean for example Robotech and Macross you could probably ask for the Macross songs but you cant ask for Robotechs Kneel Before the Great and Benevolent Cow! |

To me anime is the expression on an idea (or a certain emotion) put into an artistic form. While this may apply to every peice of art in general, anime has certain characteristics that differ from other shows such as (a great deal of abstract concepts compared to mainstream appeal, significant emotional depth with a lot of characters, etc.)
You need a reason to be sad. You don't need a reason to be happy. The secret to happiness is to face the fact that the world is horrible.

I see happiness in anime... Anime is the way I always can save the day, I find a lot of entertaining with anime. Anime has given me so much good times, in fact it's because of anime that I met this place, and I love being here ^_^ Later!   |
