*spoilers*
Hmm.. for me, the saddest moment was in Kannazuki No Miko. When Himeko finally realizes that she loves Chikane but already killed her. >o< And then they can't be together (this sounds obvious, but they get reincarnated) and are doomed to a fate of reincarnation followed by killing one another.
Some other sad moments are when Bankotsu from InuYasha died, when Nicol from Gundam Seed died, and Eureka Seven when Eureka is chaning into her corallian form and Renton smashes his arm to share her pain.
Also when L died in Death Note. I cried like a baby. (also cried when Matt and Light died..)

For people who haven't seen the movie, Don't Read This! The saddest moment in anime for me was a part in Full Metal Alchemist Movie: Conquer of Shamballa, where Winry's last line, this one seriously reminded me that this was the end, was "Well, I guess this is good-bye for good..." I loved the movie, cried my eyes out at the end, sang along with L'Arc~En~Ciel's Lost Heaven and watched it over again cause it was just so gripping. I hope somone else will love this movie as much as I do^^

Uhm, GitS: SAC I towards the end of the series when the last 3 Tachikoma's save Batou and Konoko and Batou decide that their free will wasn't a bad thing. Also the last episode of SAC II, but it didn't get me the same as SAC I. Last ep of Cowboy Bebop.

Ouch here is top two and both were already mentioned in last 5 posts

Fullmetal Alchemist, I almost threw a hissy fit over that, Ed and Al, together but... ouch.

and Grave of the Fireflies, after the movie stopped I watched the credits. The whole movie replaying in my head, I just sat there long after movie stopped and watched the menu, It was soo sad I spent thirty minutes like that, then I sighed grabbed the remote and pressed play again.

Grave of the Fireflies made me feel the most any anime, any movie has ever made me feel. Though not book, that was "Where the Red Fern Grows."

Just a small town nerd, living in a teched out world, took the world wide web going a...ny...where.

I was just thinking about these and I have quite a few to list.

*SPOILER ALERT: FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN THESE READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!*

Chrno Crusade's ending when Rosette and Chrono died seems to be a noticeable one on this thread, and I would definitely agree with those who selected that to be one of their saddest anime moments because from the beginning it was inevitable. Also, in my opinion, when Satela died and Azmaria started singing, that was memorable for its melancholic theme.

Grave of The Fireflies-Seems popular on here too, I couldn't argue with that. The whole movie was just depressing, and Mythril Shotgun, it also made me feel the most any anime or movie ever has before. I also agree with you Zparticus Prime that when Setsuko dies that it is really depressing. What was also sad was when Seita cremates her. That left my friend, my brother, and I silenced.

Metropolis-When Ray Charles's “I Can't Stop Loving You" plays. The whole scene when Tima falls was very saddening, I watched it over and over because I was so compelled by it.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion- When Misato dies, Asuka's fight with the Eva series, and the Third Impact when “Kom Susser Tod” plays along with Yui’s speech.

Full Metal Alchemist- Hughes funeral, also when Sloth died, and the ending of the series. I haven't seen the movie yet though....

Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade-The ending. Has anybody seen that? I thought that was really compelling.

Wolf’s Rain-When Darcia kills Jagura, and the ending.

Elfen Lied- The ending.

Trigun-When Rem dies, Wolfwood's death, also when Vash kills Legato.

Cowboy Bebop-The Real Folk Blues Part II, I seriously started crying at the end after Julia and Spike had died and my brother was like “it’s just an anime”. I would also have to say when Faye finds her former home to be a pile of pure ruble in Hard Luck Woman. Also, when Ed leaves the Bebop, which was in the same episode.

Witch Hunter Robin-I thought it was sad when Amon and Robin get seperated during the attack on the STNJ headquarters and then afterwards Amon gets shot. What a cliffhanger ending....

I think that’s enough to list for now.

" Here and everywhere... now and always. I am the wheel and its turning; I am the circle of life and death."
