My contribution to our Tagalog lessons will be another song translation. Guided of course. It's one of my personal favorites. It's a song by a local band, Imago. The title of the song is "Akap", which means "embrace". Nagtatanong (verb, asking, wondering) bakit mahirap (bakit-why mahirap-hard, difficult) sumabay sa agos (sumabay-to keep in step agos-flow) ng iyong mundo (iyo-possessive pronoun, your/yours mundo-world) Wondering Why it's so hard To keep in step In the way your world turns NOTE: The word agos meant flow, but in my translation, I had to contextualize it. "Agos ng iyong mundo" is a local idiom comparing the world turning to the flow of a river. Nagtataka (Confused) Simple lang naman sana Ang buhay (ang-the [omitted from translation]buhay-life) Kung ika'y matino (Kung-if Ika'y [abbreviated "ikaw ay"]-you are matino-good) Confused Life could have been So simple If only you did good **Sabihin sa akin lahat ng lihim mo (sabihin-tell sa akin-to me lahat-all lihim-secret) Iingatan ko (Iingatan-to protect ko-I) Ibaling sa akin ang problema mo (Ibaling-to divert, to turn to) kakayanin ko (Kakayanin-to endure) **Tell me all your secrets I will keep them Turn to me for your problems And for you, I will endure it Pikit mata (Pikit-verb, to close one's eyes mata-eyes) kong iaalay (Iaalay- to offer) ang buwan at araw (buwan-moon araw-sun) pati pa sapatos kong suot (Pati-also, and sapatos-shoes suot-to wear, wearing) With eyes closed I will offer you The moon and the sun Even the shoes on my feet Nagtatanong simple lang naman sana ang buhay kung ika'y lumayo (lumayo-to stay away) Wondering Life could have been So simple If you'd just stay away Repeat ** Sasamahan ka sa tamis (sasamahan- to accompany tamis-sweetness) Sasamahan ka sa dilim (dilim-dark) Sasamahan ka hanggang langit (langit-heaven) Sasamahan ka sa tamis Sasamahan ka sa pait (pait-bitterness) Sasamahan ka sa dilim Sasamahan ka hanggang langit Sasamahan ka I will walk with you through life's sweetness I will walk with you through the dark I will walk with you all the way to heaven I will walk with you through life's sweetness I will walk with you through bitterness I will walk with you through the dark I will walk with you all the way to heaven, I will walk with you *Whew!* PRONOUNCIATION REMINDER: Vowels are pronounced in the same way as it is done in the Japanese language. |
