@without you: thank you, i also thought the hair was done well. with a copic marker, you can achieve nice tones of light to dark by just layering the same colour over and over. it doesnt smudge other lines, nor wet the paper, because the ink (of copic) is alcohol-based. @imppy: thank you, its all because of the pen im using @ich: thanks a lot, ill keep going @dangel: thank you, yeah it is really empty around, but ill stop at that.. for the next work, im thinking of drawing with more detailed bground, so please look forward for it 'u^ @eureka: im excited to see your new pics! @dragonfly: thats the best compliment ive ever had. a really nice portrait youve done. and the spacing youve arranged is great. @kali lei: nice digital colouring! i also want photoshop. a lot of manga artists use digital colourings now. i especially like colour works from ARIA |

@Kali Lei: cool coloring. The purple color really makes her look devilish. @Eureka: You know the saying, success is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. I think you and Roq will make it big if you stick to what your heart really wants. @Roq: One of the main reason I am not an artist is I got a D in my first (and last) drawing class. I should have taken it Pass/Fail instead of letter grade. That sucked. I guess the teacher was too arrogent for me as well. |

Hey everyone! Thanks for the comments! @Eureka, thanks so much! Just like Without You said, you can achieve anything you desire in life with work. You're still young and already quite talented, you've a bright artisitic future if you choose to embrace it! Have a great sailing trip too, cya really soon! @Ryoko no baka, thanks a ton! Coloring it? Hmmm, see I never get around to doing that lol. Maybe I should though...how bout this, I should get a scanner by summer, so I'll spend some time going over some old images and coloring them if I can. Never really had much practice with that though lol, oh well, we'll see... @Without You, wow! That's quite a reason, but being an artist is a life of perpetual critique, in search of that one piece you can call your life's masterpiece. I seriously do consider you an artist, and I really hope you reconsider your decision, but frankly, I'll be happy just to see anything new from a master like yourself. Nonetheless, it's cool having the talent huh? |

@Rog: Well, let us keep that pen/pencil busy. Nice drawing, BTW. I forgot to comment on it. IMHO, if she is already naked on the upper half, you might as well lose the underwear. XD I finished the Eureka drawing I started a few days ago. It was done with mechinal pencil. I added the hair clip as requested by Eureka, and that thing-of-ma-jig on her thigh. ![]() Today I made someone really sad and angry. So I sketched these to reflect my mood. It is really simple. Nothing special. Sorry about the lines. ![]() |

Hey everyone! I recently lended help to the request thread and I was assigned to real life models, so here's a practice sketch I did yesterday:![]() ![]() Enjoy, and please post some comments for improvement, I really want to learn as much as possible. @Imppy, thanks very much for that flattering comment! I really appreciate it! Hope your PC gets fixed soon too! @Without You, excellent works! lol Good point about the naked thingie, but oh well lol. Pic 1: It's great seeing the fully realized Eureka! It looks so very dynamic and very textured too, every detail is truly impressive to behold! I love the explorative pose too! Pic 2: Wow! These emotional pics look amazing! Your expressions demonstrate a good sense of anatomy, and it's actually saddening to see such a pretty face so sad...excellent practice sketches though! |

@Roq: Nice sketch. I think it looks very true to life. Here is my comments. I hope you don't think I am too harsh. :) 1) I know I commit the same mistake myself but you might want to use different type of paper. But since this is a practice sketch, then it's not a big deal. 2) The subject seems a little oversize. 3) Use layering more instead of lines unless you intended to create lineart. Start with light line to define the shape, then use light shading to define the form. Use heavy shading to create contrast and space. Here is an sketch I did (a long time ago) that demonstrate what I am trying to say. This sketch took less than 10 minute to finish. IMHO, all sketches should be drawn relatively quickly. In the case of my sketch, there was minimal smudging on the face but everything else is just simple strokes. ![]() I remembered when I took my drawing class way back when, I had to draw the same scene at least 5 times with 5 different style. It was hard. I had to learn how to vary strokes, pressures, shading, etc. Anyways, I digress. |

@Without You, THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I truly appreciate your comments and critiques! I admit that it does seem a bit oversized now that I look at it, but most importantly, your third piece of advice gives me an interesting way to do these! Thanks a great deal! Here, after reading your post, I saw a book of Ernest Hemingway, and I drew him(in about 15 minutes) using your process: ![]() ![]() I hope I'm getting closer! BTW, 5 times with 5 styles? That's pretty grueling...now wonder you know so much about this kind of art! Thanks again! |

@ Roq Yeah, I'm really getting impatient with my PC tebayo T-T btw, nice sketches~! I'm not really good at realism that's why I can't give suggestions XD but overall I really like it~! Especially the second one, you improved by Without You's advice dattebayo~ ^^ @ Without You EEH~! I love the shading, the way you smudge it is very proportional ^^ and yay cute bird~! X3 |

@Roq: Very nice job. I can see two different styles from your two posts. I see more exploration going on. The shading on the face really create the sense of space. I don't love Hemingway, but I love the way you drew him. I like seeing him through your eyes. Just remember you make your art unique, not the subject. Great job. @Imppy: There are many ways to draw. Realism is just one, basic way to draw. Anime style is also another way. That's why I think that as hard as it sounds, practicing in different styles will give your great flexibility. Last but not least, don't let my advices limit what you can do. :) |

@ Without You Yeah, but I might as well stick as an anime/manga artist since that's what I do best XD it might not be too late for realism practice though tebayo~ X3 weeeh~! Oh btw, since I am SO BORED because of my stupid PC still NOT WORKING--I just randomly sketch some of my crazy imagination inside of my head and poof~! What have I done XD Q: What do you call a ball full of air? A: No it's not Basketball you dumbass it's RASENGAN~! WOO~!! ![]() |
