Most likely it was Lucy, but it could be Nyuu if she changed back or remained in Lucy form.

Elfen Lied is definitely one of my favorites... I love the ending, that is not often seen by me in an anime ^__^ and the massacres +___+ that was sooo cool. @Ray-san: what Dangel-san just said, you really need to finish the anime, it's amazing!!!   |

I don't think so. If you think about it, there's nothing else to really find out or see except for who was standing at the door. Mostly people guessed who that certain person was.

I just finished watching the anime and I have exactly the same question about the ending as all of you have. Thank you for clarifying the ending for me. I have to say it is very very grusome anime and it is full of nudity. However, I think both ingredients are neccessary. It is not a Hentai anime for the most part, except when Nyu was playing with Yuka's tits for apparently no good reason. (I am sure they felt good ;) I also agree with some of the comments that this anime is very deep. I just download the manga (most of it) so I can find out what I missed in the anime. I am not ashame to say that I have tears in my eyes as I watched the ending when Lucy and Kouta embraced. I can so understand the long for forgiveness and the tremendous amount of remorse and griefs that Lucy had to carry. In many ways, the tremors that each characters experienced isn't too far from reality. It is this connection that makes the anime compelling. I am glad I am among people who can appreiciate this anime.  |

Yes very very gruesome. But once you get past that it's really an great anime. Beautiful animation, music and a rich cast. About the ending: my guess is that Lucy went to void herself of the evil inside her by symbolically killing it aka allowing the government to do it, the returned a new and better person. Like a phoenix or something... |

The theme song "Lilium"? Yeah it'll get stuck in your head which is fine by me. Such a beautiful song and it goes well with the anime. Very complimentary. |

episdoe 14 is really like a episode 10.5 though and its like a filler kinda, it basicaly shows how lucy got caught and put into the lab    |

I wonder, how can you guys say it's Lucy/Nyuu? Lucy/Nyuu was shot by the "army" with her last horn broken off implying it. Her two vector arms were in the sky while they were shooting at her too. So there's no way Lucy can survive if she can't block. The girl standing at the door seemed to have long hair, which Lucy's was short at the end. There was more I was thinking, but those reasons are what's most prominent. I think they shouldn't make another season. The ending is fine as it is. All that's left is for the viewer to be creative and imagine the future.  |
