Dfly's problem may be related to the firewall, which is probably blocking the port used to connect to chat. In your firewall options, make sure port 8080 is an exception, or allowed.
Synai, since the problems seem like they may be related, you might want to check that as well, however Gendou will have to check on that error message you're getting.

Actually you may be right Link. I recently (during the time away) upgraded to Zonealarm Pro which has tighter security features. I don't think it's a connection problem since I can connect to chat (port 8080 is enabled just in case) but I'm guessing some kind of setting in Zonealarm Pro doesn't like Java applets. The fact I was able to get it working properly for a short period means there is a workaround (and I may have stumbled upon it by accident only to close it up again) but I just haven't had time to mess around with it yet.

Okay I have finally found the problem. It has nothing to do with Java at all, but all on Zonealarm PRO settings.

1) Open up Zonealarm PRO Control Center (right click icon in task tray and choose "Restore Zonealarm PRO Control Center" since it doesn't respond to double-clicking).

2) Click on the Privacy tab. On Main, Cookie Control, Ad blocking, and Mobile Code Control must be OFF. I tried customizing settings* to retain security but exclude Gendou.com but none of them worked. Click on Cache cleaner, then click "Clean Now". This could take a few minutes.

3) Close browser, restart it. Log into Gendou, Gendou Chat and chat away freely.

By the way, enabling port 8080 is not necessary at all. It's too bad we have to disable some security measures just for one applet to work properly but you always have the option to turn it off just for chat and when you're done, turn it back on.

*List of what blocks it.

In Cookie Control: Having either "Block 3rd Party cookies" or "Remove Private Header Information" stops java applet from loading properly.

In Ad Blocking: Having "Pop-up/Pop-under" blocked stops java applet from loading properly.

In Mobile Code Control: I haven't bothered with this one since I have it off on default but "Block Javascript" will probably do you no good.

Ok see.
I did cleaned it.
But The chat still not working on me.

Do I have to Desaeble all the cookies control and Ad bloking and Mobile Code Control for all the sites?

[edit]
hahahaha it is fixed!
Thanks Synai!
Wheee back to the chat X3~

I'm having the same problem and I'm looking at alternative ways of fixing it;
Firstly; I've reinstalled Java for obvious reasons; alas, to no avail.

The Below Tips are done through Firefox (browser) and Vista.

One option you can do, and I have checked this and it works, is to set up a new profile in Firefox;
1. Close all windows running for firefox
2. In the search bar (its in the start menu), type firefox.exe - ProfileManager
3. Press Enter
4. Set-up a new profile and open firefox
(note: if you have addons/themes/settings saved from your other profile, they will not appear in the new profile, but don't worry- if you wish to return to your old profile, you can simply redo the above and select the recent one)

It's a get around, I'm still looking into solving the problem.
Another note is that in a lot of cases where Java apps don't seem to be running, you can run firefox as an administrator (right click the shortcut and press "Run as Administrator"); apparently there's a bug with version 2.0.0.10 or maybe 2.0.0.8 of Firefox, can't recall.

========================
EDIT:
========================
Alright, one solution is in terms with the problem that occurs in 2.0.0.8 of Firefox requiring running the program in Administrative mode. In said version, many users often ran into problems where java applications wouldn't run despite having java installed and the console enabled; As such, running in Administrative mode was a get around to fixing the problem, whereas running as admin would "reset" - in laymen terms - java (as weird as that may sound). Taking the same concept to mind, you can set up a second profile as I mentioned above and launching mozilla in the new profile. You can then switch back to your older profile, and you should now be able to get back into chat :). It's dirty, but it works.

I was having trouble getting into chat, so I tried re-downloading java but that didn't work. However I finally did get in by going into internet options (I'm using IE) and enabling the Java Platform SE Binary add-on. Then I got in right away.

I've been having major chat issues the past few months with it not working, but I've been busy and haven't really tried to work it out...

However, now that I'm free again and such, I've been trying to fix it!

I started with getting a new Java after the Chat continually said It was conencting but never did; and even that didn't work! ( Did it a week ago )

However, just now, I tried getting in and the page actually did things!

It's saying my connection is refused, and then retrying every 5 seconds...

Now, Im not sure if the chat is down or something, but if someone can help me with the issue that would be awesome; I wanna chat again D:

Shuyin, I had that same problem before at a few different times, and I have no freakin clue why.

I remember a few times last year it would do that in Firefox but when I tried to open chat in a different browser it worked fine.
So maybe try using a different browser than the one you have?

Another time I was also told it can happen every once in a while when you're using wireless? [i dunno if that's true but it's what I was told]
But yeah just try the browser first, hopefully that might work :x

Shuyin, it sounds like your firewall is preventing you from connecting out to port 8080.

Re: Chat 2.0 Help

I've tried doing alot of the things here, INcluding the Port 8080 thing.

But uh, I'll lsit out a few things I have if that should help...

( I use wireless btw, one that runs through my neighborhood and one I've used for a year and a half )

Anyway;

1. Windows Vista Home Premium
2. AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition Version 8.0.233
3. Windows Firewall
4. AOL 9.1, AOL Desktop, Firefox 3.0.10 ( Which doesnt work atm, making me believe firewall/AVG issues ), Internet Explorer ( Which I never use ).

Now, I have gone into Windows Firewall and gone to the EXCEPTIONS tab => Add Port => ( Name: gendou ) Port: 8080, Protocol: TCP ( I can't select the other, UDP, at the same time as TCP, and there is no option for ingoing or outgoing ).

I'm assuming all the stuff I've done trying to get Java and Chat working made Java work, or perhaps it was just updating and restarting my whole computer that got it working.

Also, in AVG, I've gone to RESIDENT SHIELD => Exceptions ( From blocking or preventing start up ) and added both Java Folder and Firefox Folder.

I think AVG may be causing the issue, as I got that since the last time I was in chat, though Im not sure.

Perhaps all this information can help u.u;

Since you are able to post in the forum, you are clearly able to connect to gendou.com on port 80.

To test your firewall settings, try this:

Start→Run→telnet gendou.com 8080

If it fails to connect, you know that you are unable to establish a connection due to some blockage at some point.

I tried doing that run thing a few times now, but the only thing I'm able to run are programs and stuff.

Im not able to do anything like what you said ._.

Also, my run ( being on vista ) has to either searched for or opened from:

Start=>All Programs=>Accessories=>RUN

Then, I can type the name of " a program, folder, document, or Internet resource, and Windows will open it for you "

But as far as what you said, I tried doing different things, but it doesn't work; So I may need to do something else.

When I say it doesnt work, what you asked me do doesnt seem to be done from there as when it tries to search for things it's not found.

EDIT!!!!!: ISSUE RECOLVED! :D

The problem was still-lurking Norton software that I had to remove via the Norton Removal tool. Once I did that and restarted, EVERYTHING, Not jsut chat ( like, firefox was messed up ) NOW WORKS! :D

Its a good day *~*

I can connect to chat, but only messages appear that I am connected, nothing else. If I try to write & submit something, a series of annoying dialogue boxes appears, starting with 'TTP/1.1 400 Bad Request'. After the sequence of dialogue box disappears, the connection is lost. Re-connect, & the sequence of events repeat... :-(

Sounds like you have some sort of network problem.
Are you behind a firewall or proxy?
