It's not entirely necessary to use thumbnails, but at the very least it's useful to create two versions of your image; a smaller image for your post here, and then have it link to a larger version of the image. Most of the pictures I've been using here are scans from artbooks, and the originals are on the order of 1200x1600 resolution, consisting of ~500kb or so. Obviously that's not a great solution, particularly if I'm using my own website's bandwidth to host these. So I make one that's approximately 600x800 (or thereabouts) and 150kb to link to, and then a smaller one 300x400 and 60kb to post here. I use photoshop to handle this, and it's really useful, but if you only want to resize and lower the resolution there are probably some decent free tools that are available. Here is the html code you would use: <a href="http://www.linkyourlarge.image/here.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://include.yoursmaller.image/here.jpg"></a> Then, the result you get will look something like this:  (featuring Aria, Karen, and Shirayuki of Sister Princess) I hope that helps. Setting the target to "_blank" opens the image up in a new window, which I think is a lot easier for us so we don't have to keep coming back to this window and reloading each image. Or else you can use firefox like I do and just pop it in a new tab. |

okay, when you use photobucket, 1. check the small box under the image that you want. 2. click the option at the very bottom that says "Generate HTML and IMG code". 3. then, copy the code in the box that says "HTML clickable thumbnails for Ebay, Livejournal, MySpace, etc. - recommended" 4. finally, paste it here. its easy, ne~ |
