check that you have no firewall.
if you do, allow TCP port 8080 outgoing.

Re: Chat 2.0 Help
Link | by on 2008-02-21 17:23:09
And how do i allow TCP port 8080 outgoing?

Yeah, Seems like I've got the same problem...

The Firewall appears to be blocking the Java Applet... It keeps saying Connection Refuse all the time

Well, That's my Conclusion ^^ Either that Or the Chatroom hate me XDD

And, oh Yeah.. How do we enable the TCP 8080?

Enix Cloud, try restarting first.
Then, if it's still connection refused, try disabling your firewall.

For everyone who wishes to (or has to) keep their firewall enabled, you will have to allow outgoing TCP 8080 connections to be established.
I do not know what sort of firewall you have, hardware or software, but you should be able to add rules to it.
In general, you'll need to add a rule that allows port 8080.
You can have it be for all protocols, or just TCP (there is no danger in this at all).
Hope this is helpful.

Hmmmm... How to allow Port 8080 if we're in a network based connection? My Friend told me that we have to be the admin of the server to do that.. Any other way to add the rule?

Edit: Ah,, Found a way to add the rule... Just added the rule for port 8080 to go both way.. *outgoing and ingoing* But Still can't enter the chat... >.>

Hey there Gendou, I'm having a strange new error for chat since I last entered back in February. Basically I get the...

"Connecting to the chat...
Using chat client version 2.3.7
Connection established!"

message but then it takes an estimated 10 minutes to show the users online, one by one. Basically, the "finding users online" seems to be loading very slow. No messages people send are loaded as well as messages I type. Change of chat title is not updated either. I can view what is going on via the logs however.

Overall, everything is working fine except the main chat page so it just makes it very inconvenient to have to open a separate tab and constantly refreshing the chat log to see what is going on.

Edit- I don't know if this is the cause but in the java console I get this error:

Exception in thread "Thread-6" netscape.Javascript.JSException
at netscape.Javascript.JSObject.getWindow(Unknown Source)
at ChatClient.run(ChatClient.java:87)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)
Exception in thread "Thread-12" netscape.Javascript.JSException
at netscape.Javascript.JSObject.getWindow(Unknown Source)
at ChatClient.run(ChatClient.java:87)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)
Exception in thread "Thread-23" netscape.Javascript.JSException
at netscape.Javascript.JSObject.getWindow(Unknown Source)
at ChatClient.run(ChatClient.java:87)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)
Exception in thread "Thread-38" netscape.Javascript.JSException
at netscape.Javascript.JSObject.getWindow(Unknown Source)
at ChatClient.run(ChatClient.java:87)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)
Exception in thread "Thread-46" netscape.Javascript.JSException
at netscape.Javascript.JSObject.getWindow(Unknown Source)
at ChatClient.run(ChatClient.java:87)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)

I didn't think it mattered since I don't use netscape but that might be misleading.

EDIT

Very weird, but it somehow fixed itself today. I uninstalled every version of java, reinstalled just the latest, and still the same. But after a refresh while inside chat, it loaded normally and is working perfect now. Not sure what the exact solution was but thank goodness it's working.

EDIT

The same error has resurfaced and refreshing inside chat doesn't fix it.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Basically after ten minutes, the first person will be shown online and so forth. The online information seems to be stuck at the time when I joined chat as when I stayed in for a few hours and managed to see some more users online, I was told they had left a while ago.

Also interesting note, the java console popsup immediately as I join chat. If I refresh chat, the java console displays the...

netscape.Javascript.JSObject.getWindow(Unknown Source)
at ChatClient.run(ChatClient.java:87)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)

error with a different "Exception in thread "Thread-#" netscape.Javascript.JSException" thread number. If I refresh chat multiple times, the same error is reproduced in the java console but the thread number increases.

Hope you can help me solve this problem Gendou. :(
