I've heard a few and seen a few live versions of their songs on youtube here and there before.
I'm starting to like them, although they're fairly new to me still. In fact, they ARE!
Currently, I can say "THE FINALE" is my first song I like from them.
Or... more like the only song I really heard through so far.
It's my song on MyS. right now. ^_~`

I'll try to check them out more later on and whatnot, but yeah they're friggin' nuts!
I saw one live version of "THE FINALE" and the lead singer tried to sing out the intro lyrics, but he couldn't.
He seemed out of breathe; he couldn't sing so he just yelled.
Not "scream", but that death metal like yell singers in bands do!?
That was crazy though. It can really fire you up, and the crowd really liked it, too.

I saw from their site that they're going to release a new single in late October, titled: Dozing Green. I hope it rocks like their recent releases. Can't wait for it.

For those who are new to Dir en Grey, I would recommend listening to THE PLEDGE and Namamekishi Ansoku. These two are their best song IMO in The Marrow of a Bone. Old ones? Try Taiyou no Ao and Mushi. If you like heavy music, try Garbage and Beautiful Dirt in Withering to Death or Grief in The Marrow of a Bone.

I love their concerts by the way. It's so cool to see Kyo bleeding and wounding himself, it increases the impact of their songs.

i'm new and thanks for listing out some of their good songs.
i haven't had time to get more into their music. just been watching "the final" on youtube a lot. ^.^;

are there videos of this concert on youtube or anywhere online?
i saw images of this, i saw the scars on his chest and he was bleeding from his face or something. O.o`

Try searching for "kodoku ni shisu," all of the performances of this song (except AKnot) has kyo doing the fish hook.

Yeah, it's pretty sick (cool):

I'm trying to find their "Marrow of a Bone" album online somewhere for ddL. 'Clever Sleazoid' is a pretty sweat song.
What would you say is your favorite album from them?
Excluding 'Marrow of a Bone' for now, I only dLed Withers to Death. I have a site to get their other three though. XD

Oh, one last note, about that concert, did they do any more songs?
That video said DVD rip, and only contains two songs: Kodoku ni Shisu, Yue ni Kodoku and The IIID Empire.

The crowd didn't really "get them", as you can tell by reading the comments or just watching the video.
The part where he slipped on the water was funny, yet he turned it into a part of his act.

I was going to see them at one finnish festival, but I didn't have money atm ;3
And they are in Finland right now, since they had a performance yesterday and today. I won't be getting to neither though, since Helsinki is too far xD

Anywhoo, best album by them is Withering to Death, which has more good songs on it than any other album by them. The worst ever.. Well, Vulgar, and the newest the Marrow of a bone are almost equally horrible xD

And I do happen to have their Discograpy ^^'

Have you seen the vid where Kyo faints? :D
For some reason it's pretty laughable.

I saw titles of videos of that on YouTube, but I clicked on about three and they were some stupid fan videos of other songs by him. >_>`
On their 'Marrow of a Bone' album, so far 'Clever Sleanoid' is the best song I've heard so far. It's pretty short though. D:
Although, I've only heard about four, and they're available on their official MyS.

'Withering to Death' is cool. His screams are really good.
I wanna check out their 'Despair of the Womb' DVD, but if you search that on YouTube, there are like three different sets where they use the same title!
I just separate them a part by what Kyo wore to perform. XD

last year i became a big fan of Dir en grey by just getting Marrow of a Bone. That album was really really good! Then a few months ago i got my hands on Vulgar which too is a very good Album! On youtube a few weeks ago after watching Nightmares Raison De Etre i saw that Dir En grey had that same name as one of their songs. Ive never seen any of their videos before but that video was...i would post it up here but its a bit to graphic and scary lol!

I like Dir En Grey.
All songs on Withering to Death are great, so I can't really pick a favorite one.
Die is my favorite preson from Dir En Grey, he is cool :D

Anybody else ever explore into their much older albums? I wanna hear more screams.

Also, "CLEVER SLEAZOID" is one of my favorite songs from them, all time! It's friggin' insane!
If you guys want to check it out, I can post a video of it live.

ahh.. The screams are not my stuff xD
But at least the new version of AGITATED SCREAMS OF MAGGOTS is pretty bad ass.
I have always hated that song though.

lol, huge fan of Kyo's screams! >;3
New version of that song? You hate the new one or... the old one? O.o`

I have the new version, and the old version, and I hate both xD

Anywhoo, I don't hate Kyo's screams in all of his songs.
The illegally long song title namemakashi tamerai hohoemi..something.. (track9) from the Marrov of a Bone as an acoustic version is one of my long time favorites *_*

the heck. I have to check that song title.
Namamekashiki ansoku, tamerai ni hohoemi
It seems that I remembered at least part of it xD

Re: Dir en Grey?

Yeah he doesn't, but I love it when he does.
It'd be complicated to have an album entirely featuring screams.
To think you perform these live, track after track, you'll voice would get weaker and weaker.

There's just no way, and Kyo goes all out, too, which makes it tough sometimes.
I've seen live songs where he lost his voice and it's not the best thing to see (with any band, really).
But the crowd at their shows sings along, too, so they're second string back-up vocals. XD

Where is this "new version" of 'AGITATED SCREAMS OF MAGGOTS' located?
The only ones I've heard of is the original one (on the single and
Marrow of a Bone) and the live one on "Dozing Green", which I guess
is what you mean by the new one? Both are pretty awesome to me, though
they don't beat tracks like "IIID Empire" and "Umbrella".

"The IIID Empire" is probably one of the top three songs I like from them.
I like the band, but not all of their songs are really interesting to me... D:
Hardcore ones with screams and 5h17 are the ones I like like "CLEVER SLEAZOID" and others.

Although I'm not sure if there's any other band that sounds merely like them. Kyo friggin' OWNS though. >:(

@Power yeah, I meant the live one. And the new version was the hydra xD
O'well. I'm not that big Diru fan anyway >:( xD

And yeah, to me MOST of their songs are not really intresting to me :´DD
They have done lotsa music and had long career though, and I respect that m/
