[@rubysakura] Lucky! Your own place for recording? Apartment? [@ijad] No acapellas are allowed. It needs to have some tune or music. [@TeenyDratini] What program are you using specifically? You could move the instrumental back to sync it.

The only (free) voice recording software I've heard of is Audacity, so I'm using that. And I can't really send it, since I usually just start over when I notice there's a delay. D: |

[@teenydratini] Hmmm, it must be your mic (are you using an actual mic or a built-in one?). Well if you can complete a song, whether it's delayed or not, export it, then uL it so I can hear what might be the issue. It seems easy to fix if it's just delayed, naturally, you'd just sync up where you begin the song/being to sing by moving the track(s) up or back. [@kaz02] No news yet, but it might be soon so stay tuned.

I'm using some sort of cheapish mic my mom bought for a college presentation. And like I said, I tried deleting a tiny chunk of my recording, but there's some sort of minimum for the amount I can delete and that amount is larger than the delay. Sorry, I'm sorta new to this. D: |

Hey TeenyDratini I'm in the same boat; don't have very nice microphone and use Audacity and have noticed the sync issues - shifting tracks doesn't really work. How I usually record is set up the instrumental track in Audacity, mute it while recording (you can hit record starting at anytime really and adjust it later) and play the instrumental in an external program. The main issue is if you sing according to the instrumental running in Audacity the timing is completely wrong (for me at least). Maybe I just have terrible lag. And I've been a member here since '05 and didn't know this idol existed, ha. Too bad everyone seems scary good and professional, not sure if I'd want to compete, but I'll be around to vote! |

Why would you record in two separate programs when it's easier (and logical) to record in one? You play the instrumental or whatever and put on headphones then record your vocals while singing along. There's no need to play a song in one program and record in another, I've never heard that before. It's simply easier to do it this way, plus it's really the right way to record music. You can edit the volume track much easier this way since the only thing you'd have to worry about is noise, but that's a toss between settings (for like noise reduction) and the type of mic you're using to record with. But noise is barely noticeable when you have a decent mic and a good quality instrumental track. Plus you can add harmonies and background vocals if you want to be more creative, and at the same time it's less of a pain because the instrumental is not connected with your actual vocals (thus recording with headphones). I don't personally use audacity, but I'm sure Pame would know or some other uses would. Cause I'm still not sure why you can't delete more than you can. If I could see visually what the problem would be maybe I could help better, but yeah. But the sync issue seems like a bug of some sort to me, cause naturally you'd match up the start points of where you begin singing to your actual vocals, but seems not to be the case here.

Know any other programs I can use? Audacity's starting to annoy me. :\ Oh, and I'm trying to delete less than I can, not more. I'm not really liking my mic either. :\ |

I use Garageband and will try to find a dmg of Pro Tools or something later to personally produce with. But Audacity is one of the best free ones, I think other ones would be a hassle to use but you can try googling them. Audacity is a decent program, I think you should possibly upgrade your mic. Some mics do have delay functions when recording (what mic are you using specifically?). But yeah maybe try to upgrade to a better mic and see what happens, cause I don't think Audacity is the problem. If you need a place to start, I bought my USB mic on amazon (a good source for reviews and comments on a lot of products). You can maybe try newegg as well, both of those sites are good and you can find fair prices.

I don't know what mic I have exactly, but it's long and thin with a circular base thing that attaches to the bottom of the mic. It also had a base that could stick to the side of a computer screen. And I tried zooming in on the track, but I didn't really get what I was doing. o.o I guess I could try again. |
