I don't know how close it is to America, but I remember some of the most popular English baby names from last year... it's often the same ones but in a different order. So for girls... Hannah, Alice, Chloe, Sophie (that's me ^_~) Kate/Catherine, Laura... for boys, I think it's Jack again... James, Benjamin... maybe I should look this up. -_-'

From the magazines I read and stuff like that, seems to me that the popular names among teenagers ends with "Ko". Aiko, Kiko, names like that.
There are some English-like names that's written in Kanji too.

BTW, I heard that those Japanese who have their names in Katakana don't have an official name. Something like only having the family name in the birth cert. Don't know if it goes the same for those with names written in Hiragana.

Yuuki is a boys' name and Yuki is a girls' name.

I think Takesi/Takasi are the most popular boys names. At least it seems that way to me.

Yuri, Yuki, Midori, Sayuri and Sakura seems very common female names to me.
Male names, I don't know if japanese are still using the common names to first man in the house, such as Kazu, Yoshinori, Koichiro, etc.
Takeshi, Tadashi and Hideki seems common to me, but they don't obey this category of names by hierarchy.
My grandfather used to use this category of names. So my father, firstborned man in the family is called Yoshinori. My grandfather picked some names for my father but he refused to choose a japanese name to me. I remembered some choices I had were Koichiro and Kokei. I was the firstborn male in the house too.
Other difference - men use to write his name in kanji. Instead women writes their name in hiragana. I can't confirm this, but some users in Japan maybe can. Somethings like these were used by immigrants from Japan, who still uses old ways.

Hmm...not too many girls haved names ednding in "ko" anymore, thought "Riko" (Jasmine Child), "Momoko" (Peach Child), and "Nanako" (Greens child) are common. Please bear in mind that there are many different versions of Riko and the other names, depening on the kanji used.

"Beauty" and "greens" are common characters in girls' names now (eg.美羽, Miu; 梨菜, Rina). Common characters in boys' names include those for "great" and "big" (eg. 幸太, Kouta; 大夢, Taimu).

As for the name "Yuki," there are hundreds of ways to write it. I think most ways of writing it are unisex (not entirely sure, though). This particular writing of Yuki here ---> 優希 means "gentle hope," and I believe it's popular as a boys' name or a girls' name.
