Fear - has two broad meanings for me : ''avoid consequence (implied assumption of good and bad - related to power and desire/self-consciousness)'' ''uncertainties (implied assumption of theory of knowledge - fear of death also related to evolutionary biology [avoid instinctive dangers])'' Exactly as what The Biertrix had said. |

Fear is just an instinct to avoid dangerous things; nothing more, nothing less. |

fear is...something that can make you more brave without fear, we can't really be brave, can we? It's just my opinion, and i didn't meant to push my opinion to others but that's the kind of answer i arrived at |

I don't know what you mean. We feel fear about things we should avoid, so how is it related to bravery? |

Well, in my own definition, fear just simply means the things that keep you from growing up.XD Lol, no I mean the things that constantly makes you think about it over and over again, you may even see your fear everyday. But the more you restrain it the stronger it becomes. That is where bravery come and lend you a helping hand, whispering into your ears,"You can do it, you can do it!" Lol, thats my definition~ XD |

Fear is a restraint to our abilities. Some of us have fears of heights. Others fears of spiders, snakes, needles(*shivers* i dont want a shot!). But fear really is nothing. It's something your brain tells you is dangerous and to stop. Why it's different for every person? Simple. everyone is different. its not an emotion, its not a force, its a warning. |

| I See Fear as a survival Mechanism. EX, 7 foot 300 pound football player is on the other team in a football Game. fear tells you to stay away from him,and you obay. therefore, you dont get tackled and you score a goal. (now i could think of a more EXTREME example, but i dont have the time.) P.S this is only my Third Forum post in my life! |

Fear only existes to protect you, just as pain does. Whether it be a phsical danger or sever mental stress, the body will use fear to you away from whatever the danger is inorder to preserve itself. People may not even know why they fear something when they are afraid, but that is because the mind prioritizes that you should be afraid over the reason why. Fear and pain go hand in hand, the only difference is fear can take place before any actual dammage is done. Your body has to subconciously direct you away from harm, other wise you will carelessly do anything from pick up a sharp object to comit scuicide. Fear comes from 4 things. 1 is instints, the fear people are born with and requires no kind of trauma, this is why if a baby is set on the edge of anyplace that looks high it will not come even if the mother calls it. 2 is loss of control, this is mainly where irrational fears come from and generally only develops fear when the person is to young to tell themselves there is no danger, even if there may be no physical danger being unable to escape from or prevent a situation can build a fear, this is why a child may develop a fear of bugs if they find on crawling on them at night. 3 is perception, this is fear that is developed based on what one sees, hears, or even smells and is also more likely to happen when a person is too young to tell themselves there is no danger, the fear develops after seeing it happen to someone else and is a fear based on possibuility rather than experiance, this is why a child will have nightmares after watching a scary movie because they see someone die and their minds tell them that it could happen to them. 4 is pain, probably the most likely to cause fear and is not limited to any age, the fear will develop because you have already experianced first hand the dangers, there is no guess work with pain because the damage has been done and your brain will tell you what ever it needs to to prevent the damage from happening again. Fear may make it hard to do things but it does not pysically stop you. Fear is simply your body telling you what the risk is if you preform a certain action, if you truly want to do something you will have to tell your body that the reward is worth the risk. IT IS NOT CRAZY TO TALK TO YOURSELF. YOUR BODY GETS SCARED, IT IS SOMETIMES NESSISARY TO COMFORT IT AND LET IT KNOW THERE IS NOTHING TO FEAR. |

According to my abnormal psychology textbook, fear is a response to immediate danger. It could be annoying as it could prevent you from doing some things, but without it, you won't survive dangerous situations that require an immediate physiological response (i.e., fight or flight). Just imagine if you were facing an angry grizzly bear and you experience no fear - the bear would probably eat you even before you could think of something "rational" to do. |

fear can be.. not ready to accept the real truth. example → tomorrow is my turn to do this serious and important presentation that determines my future, graduate.. or not. (but then, on the day this person should do the presentation, this person stops himself/herself from walking to the stage. although he's/she's ready, the fact various audience and judges watching and will comment to his/her presentation makes him/her feel like to not enter the stage.) |

I think we have fears to help us prepare for future challenges in life. Like when we are young, we fear the dark, and to me that helps us prepare for when we are all grown up and have to move away from family on rely on yourself, because in the dark you believe the only thing that can save you is your loved ones (to me), but you can't always be dependent (that was longer than I wanted it to be ^ ^")

for my opinion, I think fear is a command from your brain to stay away from something or to tell you to not do something it is true that fear keeps us safe, but at the same time, fear also can keeps us away from reaching something that we need (ex: respect, grade, etc) but we do NEED fear, because it keeps us save, but don't give in to your fear too much... so we should control fear by facing it well that's only my opinion anyway :P |

Fear is a craving of "avoidance". Like any other things, fear can be a "good" or a "bad" thing. Since good and bad themselves are a matter of perspective, Fear itself become a reason for humans to avoid something they should not. Or a reason for humans to avoid something new, this is when fear is usually unnecessary. In some cases, fear is something to get rid of, the only way to move forward. In some other cases, fear is something that keeps you out from danger. ..... everything is a matter of perspective, in the end.... |

Fear is playing Dead Rising in a thunderstorm for 14 hours trying to get your 7-Day Survival Acheivement and you're on your last gallon of Coffee Creamer wondering why the horde hasn't sucked your life dry to join their ranks of festering undead.

| To me fear is an emotion that holds a certain intensity of energy. That gets all your 5 human sences to its maximum. Which in some cases for some people is a role it plays in everyday life. |

| Fear is something to overcome in order to start or get better at something in your life. Running away from it will only make it grow until it will affect your way of living. Acknowleding, embracing, and dealing with it is the only way... |
