Gendou, may I ask (if you saw the movie) what you thought of the art/concept of the LHC in "Angels and Demons"?

Was the "physics" portrayed correctly?

Dood brings up the EXACT same thing I was wondering.

I went to see "Angels and Demons", and the LHC was a MAJOR part
of the story.

From what I was in the video located on the first post here,
the way they set up their set looked insanely acurate, but
I wonder if the whole thing with Anti Matter contained in such
a way will actually be possible with the LHC and if what resulted
near the end of the move could actually happen.

Not to spoil anything, I'll just mention the specifics:

The antimatter was able to be contained by power Electro-Magnets,
but should the battery have run low it would result in the antimatter
and amtter colliding and causing an explosion that was, shown in the
movie, to be massive and leave stunning aftereffects.

I know it's a movie, but Im sure Dood is wondering the same thing as me...

Is such a result and the way it's contained possible, or should I say,
Is that ( As Dood put it ) result and containment of the anitmatter
protrayed correctly or merely made overlydramatic for the film's sake?

Strange nobody posted this yet...

CERN Press Release: LHC Sets New World Record

Well imagine that, it's running! Well ok, crawling... Then it'll learn how to walk, and only then will it be able to slowly start running.

Thanks for the link SuicidopoliS!
I watch the LHC news that CERNTV has up on youtube.
They have funny accents.

some people who are usually pretty knowlegeable about such things pointed out that even if the machine does form microscopic black holes, and even if they don't evaporate immediately, you're talking about black holes that are so small (much smaller than a proton, for instance) that they'd have a lot of trouble interacting with any normal particles anyway.
