time is one of the dimensions of the universe, it never "slows down". it is an axis in a coordinate system, it just sits there! every inertial frame has its own dimensions, time and space. these dimensions are not going to appear to be the same in different inertial frames! as for the actual trivia fact i learned in class, i cannot seem to remember the details. to make matters worse, i was unable to find the answer after searching wikipedia and google... it might actually have to do with the rotation of the earth, rather than gravity. i just forget! i will think about it some more and write here again if i remember anything. maybe i can look at my notes from a year ago...
