HELLO AGAIN!

The singing madness continues ONCE AGAIN!

After a very successful Season 7, I'm glad to announce Gendou Idol Season 8!

For those of you who don't know, Gendou Idol is a singing competition! Judged by the administrator of this site, along with other people knowledgeable in the art of singing! PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A ONE PERSON SINGING CONTEST, If you want to enter the competition as a duet, you may do so, but if you move to the next round, your next entry has to be with the same person dueting with you. No group entries are allowed.

Please read the rules.

Please TAKE A TIME TO READ THE RULES, AND the questions posted below:

No auto-tune or pitch correction
In order to judge signing ability, neither auto-tuning nor any other form of digital pitch correction (such as Melodyne) is permitted.

No Vocaloid songs
Please avoid choosing Vocaloid songs.
This restriction for season 8 is intended to help encourage singing a wider breadth of songs, preferably from anime.

TIPS:

Remember to balance the volume of your voice with your music. If you don't know much about mixing, you can give your song to someone else to do so. I HIGHLY recommend this. You don't want to lose points because of a poor mixing
Don't forget to distance yourself from the microphone when you are doing a high note. Try not to max out your sound.
DON'T HOLD BACK. SING YOUR HEART OUT!

Most often asked questions:

Can I sing in a language other than Japanese?

Yes.
Can I sing something other than J-pop/J-rock?

Absolutely. You can submit any song you like. Except the ones that have a bunch of profanities, vocaloids (after all they were not made to be sung by humans, hehe) .
Can I play my own instrument and sing at the same time?

SURE!
Can I add harmonies to my song?

Absolutely! I, in particular, love harmonies. It's always a plus.
What do I get if I win?

Can I sing a Capella?

Not for this contest. Sorry.
I have a download link, can I submit that?
No. The judges will not waste their time by downloading a contestant's song. If you submit a download link, then your recording will not be heard.
Can I submit a song that I have uploaded to a site previous to the contest? Can I use an old recording?

Yes. You can submit any songs that you have recorded in the past.
How do we know who moves on onto the next round/How does the judging works along with public voting?
This is the formula to figure out the winners of each round: RANK = (total-judge-score / 20) + (total-votes / maximum-votes).

I'm debating doing a medley of songs that is about ten minutes long. Is that too much, hahaha?

10 minutes would definitely be a bit much. Stay in the 2-4 minute range. 100 contestants is a lot to listen to and extra long songs would probably just get a disqualification

GENDOU IDOL HAS OFFICIALLY STARTED! I'm SUPER EXCITED!!! (I already heard some entries, and there are some REALLY good contestants!! YAAAY!).

Alright, during the week, I'll start introducing the judges, and give you details about the contest, maybe tips :)

BIG REMINDER: Your song must be at least 2 minutes long. Don't get disqualified!

A quick question for ya: will one be penalized for doing a male cover of a female song? I happened to be a bass-baritone, and I've always liked singing...girl songs xD so I usually up the pitch of the song by 2-3 semitones. I understand the issue with my voice being of a lower register so it may get lost in the instrumental. I try to remedy that with a bit of editing.

Also, this will be a first time for me. From what I read, are we supposed to have 3 songs prepared and ready to go right now, or is it more along the lines of record-more-if-I-pass kind of thing. Thanks in advance!

Hi Bluerem: When you do songs that are sung by someone that has a different range than you can be tricky. If the song works well with your voice, then I don't believe it is a problem. Just make sure it is the right choice for a competition and that it shows your talent.

I suggest you have at least 3 songs ready, since the contests moves really fast. If you make it to round 2, you will have about 2 to 3 days to post a new entry, so if you want to record within those dates, then you are fine :D

Um, not sure if posting this in right place but, I submitted an entry but there's an issue... a few hours later youtube took it down due to "copyright issues" (yeaaah just my luck that they sniffed out that one cover among so many others, sigh...)

I have reuploaded the file to soundcloud but, I'm not sure what to do about my entry itself;

I'd love to enter sometime, but I make up so many excuses not to XD Mostly, the songs I think I do well on, I can't find a karaoke version of, so I wouldn't know how to go about it. That and take into account I have no free time in my life and I'd be super embarrassed to have my voice out there. Which is a lame excuse, especially after seeing Inu compete last season XDD

I fully plan on listening to everyone's though and wish best of luck to all the contestants out there~~!
