I am doing a M.U.N.A (Model United Nations Assosiation) conference in the next month, and I am the delegate from Iran. I need multiple prespectives on the Iranian Nuclear Programme so that I can make a convincing argument! Thanks guys, You rock! |

Muna=egg in finnish. Can aslo describe hmm.. A manly body part!! But this is serious. Riight.. I got a friend from Iran, and he totally hates the country. Or no, not the country, but it's head. And he hates the nuclear program, and usually everything like that. So let's not forget the people in Iran propably ain't that pleased with the nuclear program. Expect the brainwashed poor ones. Im using stereotypical language, and Im sad about it. Ofcourse some of the people there really might want seriously that program to be ran. I don't know so I won't say anything else about it. And it might be just they are planning to produce some power, though, Iran is one of the top oil countries.. I think Iran was doing something like this once before, but Iraq actually bombed their factories down. I don't quite remember it anymore, it was just something we were talking with my grandfather (he is clearly trying to politically brainswash me with my godfather. They have been talking politics with me, or when Im listening as long as I can remember -.-) Back to the topic. I don't like the idea of Iran running a Nuclear Program. "More nukes = more bad" Gendou got it right in every possible perspective. Nuke is bad. Bad game >:( And Nuclear is bad, bad for enviorement, and for a biiit "filled with hatred nation that just wants to free the world from few million Iraq citizens" But I think the situation wont cure if any individual contry takes action. I would get pissed if somebody would come here in Finland and tell us not to built that d*mn 6th nuclear power plant. (Im against the building, but i don't need anybody to tell that us!!) Sorry, Im talking much. I hope it's not all just idioticy. ![]() ![]() |

@Jimbob: here is the bottomline, a weapon of mass destruction in the hands of a mad man spells (guess what) disaster. If you are a delegate for Iran, make sure you don't have a mad man as your boss. Otherwise, you might want to switch side because you job won't/don't last for long. As far as I know, this world we live in, we don't like mad men. To say it in a different way. Power requires responsibility. If Iran repeatedly show the world its irresponsible ideals toward its nuclear programmes, the world will never trust it. Back to the mad man thought. ![]() |

jombob12342, you have a difficult case to defend. If you are to represent Iran, you have to be ready to defend the country's nuclear policy. I remember reading a magazine sometime ago. They had this countdown entitled "Ten Things NASA Found on Mars", and one of the things listed was Weapons of Mass Destruction. It was meant to be a joke, but since it came at the time when Iraq was being attacked by the US because they were suspcted of developing such, it seemed to hint on something more serious. Provided, more nukes mean more trouble. But then again, there's always that question, "Are you the only ones with the right to develop nuclear power"? Personally, I don't find anything wrong if a country develops their nuclear power potential, as long as it is used properly. Say, harness it for electricity. If the UN is so worried over the possibility of developing armaments, then they should figure of a way of limiting the use, instead of preventing the use thereof. There is a difference. |

It all shall boil down to two factors. War and Majority Benefit. In your defense to keep the Nuclear program going, rather not state or argue what assumptions are, but rather what benefits and goods it'll have on the broader picture. For agruements of war, yes, you can argue why should only one or two countries carry weapons of mass destruction and the others stand and prepare for the worst? They have the right to live and the right to defend, so you have the privilage to make nukes just as the next country does. For arguements on the Majority benefits, you can tell them what goods can come from it. But from lack of proper news readings, I cannot tell which side is more appealing. But from the looks of the Majority, I would bet that War is the only thing on the mind, and war is the only thing that the arguements would be. I'm a straight out careless person, so this is just my opinion, but the more nukes we have, the worse off the tension and chain effects will happen, but with this going on, the tension is not getting any better. This world will not explode from multiple nuclear bombs. Proven via science, but mass extinction is emminent if nukes are produced for war rather than defense. There is a difference between defense and war. War is the same as offense and one that attacks is the starter of the war, in this case, nukes. The one using nukes to defend is the defender. Whose to say something about defense and war if one and the other use nukes to kill regardless? If this is war, then prepare yourselves and continue the nuclear program, but there is no peace if you stop now. If Iran allies itself to the U.S. I am sure a couple decades from now, Nukes will be stationed there from the U.S. to prepare for defense. But again, this is an opinion. ![]() |

When was nuclear technology ever a good thing? ![]() |
Re: Iranian Nuclear Programme, please comment!
|
@celeriter - Since it was used to generate useful stuff, like electricity, with no polutants released and only a little waste created, most of which may be used again later. As to the weapon side of things... Once developed, they cannot be eradicated or forgotten. Thus there must be a balance of power between the nations that hold them, so that it is realized that nuking someone will result in the utter destruction of all involved, the fire-er and the nuked. Humans, who run states, value their lives, mostly, and will not unleash a nuke on another nation, because they know that they will pay with their lives and those around them. Thus all are held in check. The problem arises when madmen acquire these technologies. They do not care for their lives, or believe that they will escape alive, caring little about their people, and thus are willing to use them, accepting their death, and causing the deaths of many others, like suicide bombers and others of that ilk. Ok, rant done :)

@Padrach - I meant it never being a good thing as a weapon. I think it goes to show that the human race is unrealiable and that we'll either die in "fire or ice". I go with ice, for the thought of dying in a nuclear winter is just so .... weird? ![]() |

@ Celeriter and Padrach: both of you view more on the bad side and not the good. The fact is, having the weapons itself is self defense. If you haven't read my previous post, you should understand the reasons that make having a nuke a plausible thing. True not everyone would agree with me, but why should only a few countries rule the world via fear? The fact that a third world country is trying to become first world is encourageable. And the first step, though not economically friendly, is defense. Protect the people and the country. If denying the Iranians their nuclear program solves another countries problems, bravo, but Iranians should not suffer under some other country's hands because THEY feel that it's threatening. Who is this country that seems to boast the right to order other countries that they have no power over to do and not to do things? If this is a democracy, this is not a very good way of showing it. "Drop the program or face war" is hardly a qoute that I wouldn't expect. I feel myself a part of this society, and every person is equal. But because of society, there are human facades called Political Offices that brings more power than is needed to one individual. What choices they make affect us, and as a persons of the society we live in, I care not what they think, but rather how it will affect my future. If I end up dead, I would care less. Life is a life, and if others feel satisfied with destroying life to benefit a society of life, than what's a couple of deaths? That brings world population into place. Overpopulation was a big issue. Let the nukes come if, god forbid, there ever was a nuclear war. We would have more complainers in the war rather than in world population. A human's choice to end their own species is determined by no less than just ONE man/woman. I say just continue. What others ask of Iran is on both scales of Majority health/protection and also of control. ![]() |

In my point of view, there's nothing wrong with Iran's nuclear "programme", so long as they do it neatly and clean... And it doesn't mean that when you say something about nuclear power already means "End of the World". Nuclear power is harnessed not just for it's destructive properties, you know? And about the Bush Administration's "remarks" to Iran's nuclear program, I think it's wrong of them to say "drop the program or face the war" just because they feel threatened that another country may possibly become a next superpower. Firstly, Iraq has been "annihilated" by the Administration simply because they [the Bush Administration] were denied oil. Then Iran's gonna be next on the hitlist because they wouldn't comply to the Bush Administration's demands. If that's how they're going to show "democracy", then that's wrong of them to do so... But, then again, I'm just stating my opinions here. Sorry if I offend someone...

sure, nuclear power is clean, but why does iran insist on only using nuclear energy? they know it's a controversial issue, especially since there's a war going on. why not switch to solar power? it would set a good example of clean energy around the world, and they're in the damn desert, for crying out loud. if they're against solar power, why don't they just stick to their fossil fuels? they even have enough money as it is, so they can buy all of their energy from somewhere else. and of course the bush administration would feel threatened by this new project. a probable enemy country has been discovered creating nuclear power plants for who knows what reason?? i think it's fishy... *shifty eyes* |

Just search the web for information. I ain't an expert and I don't know what that president's thinking, but quite honestly, I just don't give a F. Firstly, I'm far too powerless. Secondly, we all have to kick the bucket one day. Thirdly, isn't there anything else we should be worrying about? Sorry in advance for my indifference and stupidity, but are you supposed to defend that nuclear program? Some pressure... Just why are they always trying to draw attention?[yawning]Just have done with it and live harmoniously for God's sake, this is not an anime where the world just gets wiped out again and again... |

Any country has the right to boost there miltary power, nuclear projects are just another method to do so. People(mostly Americans and some eueopean countries),are so scared of anyone getting nuclear weapons. Which is funny to me because America is the only country i can think of that has actually use nuclear weapons (two bombs) on another country. Either we make all nuclear/bio weapons illegal for every country or every country can have them. "We need to level the playing field."

i think there's nothing wrong with Iranian nuclear programme. well, Iran has plenty of uraniums, a great natural resource which we can use as source of energy. what's the problem if they want to research about nuclear? as long they don't use it as a weapon to attack another country. nuclear powerplant is always okay if the control of the wastes also responsible. and there is no problem about middle east people researching for nukes, as we know that the one who use nuclear power to destroy another not come from middle east. ![]() |

I think it'sn't a real problem, even if the Iran get the nuclear weapon it's ll never use it. Cause the best nuclear weapon isn't "throwed" on the ennemy it's just psychologic. Cause if they use it they 'll win but 'll receive another bomb on their "head" and the world 'll be destroyed. I think Iranians have alredy the "oil power", they maybe only want to use nuclear as source of energy. Conventional weapons that US and europe sell are more dangerous than Iranian nuclear projects ![]() |

Iran is already losing moral authority because of joint projects with the Hizbollah in fueling sectarian violence in Iraq. Just scrap the nukes. Remember: Man has never made a weapon he didn't use.
