I was wondering, about how many African-Americans visit or live in Japan? I've asked this on another forum, but have gotten mixed answers. I wanted to here from you guys.  |

Does it matter how many African Americans there are anywhere? I think this is a little... "direct" for my taste.

Well, I've actually wanted to go there, and my mom said that not as many African-American (as Caucasian) visit there. |

If you want to go, then go. You won't get jumped in an alley way or something like that... Japan is like, a dream country to visit for people "outside" of Japan... to me, anyways. :D

Nah well from my experiance there isnt too many. If they r, they will b in a group. But u do tend to see alot more ethnics than u would imagine. Ok, and if ur scared about being "harrassed" consider this: dangers occur anywere in the world, and the fact is that there r many youth gang groups whom target tourist and etc... and ofcourse not many caucasian go there, as its expensive, and many other caucasian goes to china and etc where its cheaper. Rich caucasian goes to europe. (atleast in my country). Just beware, there r dangers in ANY country, and watever u c in anime isnt all true, there r still violence youth problem etc.

I have a few African-Americans friends who have moved there for jobs. They say that there are a few in the big cities. They say that they are'nt treated any different than any other foriegners. I am African-Amer, my uncle went there years ago and married a Japanese woman.  |

I do not mind them. They are still humans. We share the same blood, we have the same organ system, we breathe, they breathe. This topic should not even be here... kinda racist to me.. D=<  |

I doubt there's racism in Japan. If there is, it's not like here anyways. It's pretty cool since there's African Americans in anime (School Rumble, Tenjou Tenge, etc.). XD

well...it actually depends...I have a black teacher and he is really cool but i know of a black guy who is a nerd too.....But for a comparison..Malaysia have much more african black than japan by the way.  |

XD " Devils-Angel, apparently you haven't been there then. Japan is pretty racist and xenophobic. There are some places around there that will refuse to give you service of any kind if you are white OR black. They will see you, stand in front of their establishment and hold their arms in a "X" letting you know that they don't serve "your kind" there.* So, you might want to rethink that statement you made. * Source - Highschool friend who was stationed at Iwakuni Air Station for multiple years and recently retired

i'm not sure how many Af-Am's there are in Japan but i have a friend here in Croatia and he's Japaneese and black, and he didn't have any problem living in Japan becouse of his african roots.  |

| To answer the real question being asked, only 1% of Japan's society are immigrants, and roughly 80% of them come from South-East Asia. Let's see... 1% of 127 million is about 1-2 million people. 80% of 1 is about 800k... You get the point. My guess is yeah, there probably are, but the population is probably really small. Japan has tighter immigration laws than the United States does :3 |
