Hmmm...I may be able to help you somewhat--I did live in Japan for a while. I still remember how to speak some of it, and if I don't remember, I have some very reliable sources (i.e. family) that can tell me. There are obviously some things that are in Japanese that aren't in English, and for those, the simplest way would be to go live in Japan = ). That not available, listen to people speaking in Japanese and really try to pick up where the sounds are coming in. Oh, and don't struggle too hard over the fact that there are about three ways to say everything. It usually categorizes itself into the three different levels of respect that you want to convey to the person you're talking to. So hey, if you want to know more, feel free to e-mail me @ Rockoff_99@hotmail.com
Anime is w00t. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't know what they're talking about. =)

To hear Japanese, it's very simple. Go get some anime. Where else are you going to be able to find a source of audible Japanese that is as easy to obtain? If you're able to get on this site, you obviously have the internet in some way, manner, or form. Therefore, you can download anime if you can't afford it. Just go by the actual thing later when you can. Hearing Japanese is one of the best ways to key in on pronunciation and vocabulary. It may sound completely ridiculous, but I do it with anime, and it really does work. Granted, you have to know some before you can improve, but that's when the patience and learning factor comes in.

I agree with Claus, Japanese is by far the easiest language I've learned it just takes patience. I'm still not very good at it but I'm having a pretty good time learning it. Besides being completely different from all occidental languages (which makes vocabulary kinda hard) its grammar is simple enough for everybody to understand. (No gender or number differences, no crazy pronunciation, geez maybe the japanese oughta teach something to the french :) ) |

You can download some music, with that you'll have the listening. If you dont understand, you can buy a Dictionary and check the meaning of some words. I did this and it works I started last week to practice it and listening is the best way cuz you hear how to spell the words in Japaneese. The Japaneese silabarium is like in Spanish language [Spanish/Spanish-English/Japaneese]. ^^ Im from México thats why I can pronounce it very well :D

I'm currently in Japanese IV, so if you have any specific questions, I'd be glad to help. Windows Service Pack 2 doesn't want to cooperate with me, so my examples will all be in roomaji (probably better for teaching anyway). Also, there are several Japanese Q&A threads on forums in other sites. I host one personally on Dragid.com, but Toriyamaworld has an entire category dedicated to the Japanese language. |

Last time I checked (6:30 pm EST, 2 March 2005), Toriyamaworld's forums were offline. Shouldn't be long until they return though. Link: Toriyamaworld Forums |
