Is there any japanese saying for "hi" that doesnt involve the usage of the time of day? So that instead of good morning you could just say... hi... =/ Thanks in advance for any replies =D

konnichiwa would be used if the time of day is ambiguous or unknown. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Ohayo would use in the morning, konnitiwa would use from noon to at the lastest 5pm, konbanwa would be use from 5 to so on. I think its something like that, actually "Yo" would be a casual to greeting to friends and family, but would be considered informal. |
Re: I have a question.

it would not only considerd to be informal but also VERY rude
"I am punch!" -Jin

I sugguest 'ohayo gozaimasu'. it's the formal way of GOOD MORNING. just take off the gozaimasu and then it's sorta informal. |

Well, the Japanese really are a cultured people refined in the arts of formalities. Their language exhumes reverence! So anything that isn't formal is considered somewhat disrespectful. |
Re: I have a question.

what about just doumo?
If you are japanese you must speak to me for I am always trying to learn new things!

Re: I have a question.

If talking to guys, use yo, If talking to girls, bust off the ヘーãƒã€€(Heero) which means Hello if you coulnt tell, Also YOU DO NOT USE KONNICHIWA/KONNBANWA to family! Its not like you would die or somehting, but its just not used. Domo works too. though its more of a "hey" than a hello. |
Re: I have a question.

Hmm~ you could use "Ya~" or "ossu(not ossu but more so oss)" or like most ppl said "yo" to ppl you kno or are close frenz with. Usually yea Konnichiwa, konbanwa, ohayogozaimasu is for ppl like, teachers..coworkers..elderly...etc. I wouldnt suggest using "doumo" tho its kinda hmm...something u gotta kno how to use first before u say it. Cuz originally it means "Thanks" in a informal way. Personally I dunno why ppl use that when they see someone ;'-') Just my opinionionion and stuff ;) It seems like its used when meeting someone again or someone introduce you to the person uve met before again... GAH its late i'll shyadap now. |
Re: I have a question.

just smile and do the peace sign, that always works. |
Re: I have a question.

"domo" is like "thank you", same meaning with "arigatou", but domo not really formal, just use it with your friends. "yo" is like "hi", use with friends. "ohayo" ("ohayogozaimashita" in full), mean "good morning" "konnichiwa", mean "good day" "konbanwa", mean "good night" "oyassumi" or "oyassuminasai", mean "good night" or when you want to sleep. ![]() |
