Quite fizzy aren't they? I wish it would hold more. I kept the balls for fun. It's funny how boba la tza was mentioned. Maybe you should've added whether they were glass or edible. ^-^ |

Didn't we have something like that in the mid 90's. It was called Orbitz. It was a bizzare flavored pop (soda if you will) that had these little floating gummie things. Only lasted a few months... anywho, I'd imagine that there are drinks like that in Japan, and that they are quite popular. And worse. But if that scares you, your mind would probably rot if you found out some of the other things they have in Japan. Scary. |

We used to call them "the Anonymous Carbonated Soft Drink"! ...then I learned to read hiragana and katakana. I have a little shrine to the original ramune drink, with all the pieces and the reciept (I did drink it, though). |
Re: Damn those drinks.......

nnn, i read an article on it or something similar in shojo beat: {runs upstairs to get article, runs into door, dies a little, opens door and trips on carpet, gets article, runs back down stairs, dies a little more} here we are! "Summer drinks are all about flavored iced coffees and teas. In Tokyo, locals lower summer temps a few degrees with cool iced milk tea or iced coffee, flavored with pearl tapioca balls. Pearl drinks crossed over to Japan from Taiwan and Southeast Asia, and have slowly made their way to the States under a number of pseudonyms - including, bubble teaa, tapioca tea, and boba tea. Whatever you cal lit, drink responsibly: Someone choking on balls of tapioca isn't a pretty sight." er... ahm, yeah. then it has this picture, it looks like a normal shake but with coloured semi-clear balls at the bottom, very small, maybe around thirty or fourty per glass.... it says in the caption: "Foam on top, pearls on the bottom - just like the sea!" aww, how poetic... did that help or anything, i don't really know! o.O
nya........... hehe.

I have no idea what any of you are talking about, I'm from the states and haven't seen hide nor hair of these things, the thing that's become quite popular here lately (although I've been drinking it for years and have loved it forever and a time) is green teas with different flavorings... but I know a site where you might be able to find out what it's called go to www.asianfoodgrocer.com lookin through there a little might help you out... good luck finding out though!

okay so I thought about it after posting and I decided to have a look for myself to find out what this ramune stuff was and I'm pretty sure, after looking through asianfoodgrocer.com that I've found out what the drink is that you're talking about. I'm pretty sure it is Ramune the picture at the site is a little hard to see but it's a clear/bluish drink in a glass bottle with these little tiny bead like things at the bottom, on the outside of the bottle is a picture of two kids drinking it and some japanese writing, which I can't quite read yet (as they say one can speak the language without ever being able to write or read it, welp that's most definately me, I can sort of speak it, but can't read it) so you may still want to have a look for yourself to confirm it for yourself but I'm almost positive that the drink you guys are talking about is Ramune... hope that helps!

I've seen RahXephon and I know what you are talking about. And most of the people that posted here were right, it is Ramune. They actually sell this drink at Suncoast, at least the ones in my area. Or they used to when I worked there.

Yep, they sell that drink at the asain grocery stores and SunCoast in my city too. It's pretty good. I remember the first time I tried it... it was over 8 years ago and I couldn't figure out how to push the marble down ( b/c my sister threw away the red-cap marble pusher). Hehehe... Anyway, I know that drink you're talking about Scooterinad, called Orbitz was it?! When I was a kid, my sisters and I used to walk to the corner liquor store just to buy those drinks. My favorite was the clear one with the white gellies... i can't remember the flavor. She liked the one with the red gellies......*sigh* memories. :) |

Man your sister threw away the cap, it must have been a pain to get it open then. I have a story a little funnier. When I was working at Suncoast me and my coworkers would try all the new food/drinks that came in. So, of course, we tried Ramune when it came in. And like idiots we spent like 15 mins trying to figure out how to get it open. Finally, my coworker Chris figured it out, but I guess from shaking the bottle around earlier, or he used to much force when he finally got it, but it exploded all over him. It was the funniest thing I had seen in awhile. But maybe you had to be there.

It takes me a long time to drink ラムãƒã€too.. (笑) I like the style and shape of the bottle ― it's very unique. ★ By the way, has anyone ever tried ラムムã‚ャンディー (Ramune candy)?? They're pretty good, too. (^Q^) |
