japanese is very easy. its so structured and consistant taht it leads very little room for confusion i think you will love it. its like you learn the structure of something and you just plug in the vocab and it will work 99% of the time. it's so beutifull. once you start learning it, you realize how stupid english is and how much you have to know to say the simplest things. for example, when you test the consintancy of english, its ridicilious what a foreign person has to go thorugh to learn english. you probably dont think of it, but if you have a funny good bitter japanese sensei, he will deff. show you and all the little things we have to change in english to say the same thing. if you really wanted to, you could easily teach yourself the charactars hiragana and katakana over the internet. you could then proceed to words but then it might get confusing with different forms. but you could do the alphabet pretty easily.
If you are japanese you must speak to me for I am always trying to learn new things!

Now that you mention it, it sounds easy. I mean, I'm trying to check language sites so that it can read Japanese on an occasion. I spend some time hearing Japanese audio from either sub versions of anime, music, or sounds from sites. If one was to hear audio in a repeated fashion, then he/she can memorize a phrase or a word. |

I took two years of Japanese in high school, and have kept up with it overtime. I'm not that good at it, but I know enough to... I guess survive if I get lost in Japan for some reason. My only problem is kanji. I hate it so much. It isn't like hiragana or katakana which make complete sense. Oh yeah, and the fact that placing a verb AFTER an object in a sentence is crazy to me. I've had to take several self-taught grammar dealie course dealie deals to dealie my... Anyways, the langauge isn't difficult in general; just the little things. That's right. The little things. |

I want to learn it.. but everyone says it's the hardest langue to learn |
Re: Is Japaniese Hard or easy to learn?

Asian languages are rated 8 to 10 when it comes to difficulty. But I guess, learning a different language takes adjustments. My mom and my friends told me that Japanese is quite easy to learn. And I think it is. It isn't like Chinese wherein a syllable or character takes different meaning whenever its tone graph changes. You have to know the characters and how they construct sentences (sentence pattern). ^_^ *** They told me that for a person to be able to read a manga, you have to be able to recognize more or less 10,000 Japanese characters. Correct me if I'm wrong. But don't fret. If you really want to learn, then you'll learn. ^_^ That goes for me too. |

Mmmm. I've found it difficult, I'm still learning. I cannot speak at all, since I can't quite get the hang of some of the prounouncation nuinaces in words. I wonder how the natural-born Japanese deaf people learn the language. Yeah, I'm deaf. =) That's probably a major factor in why I'm having a hard time learning japanese. But my sensei is encouraging me to take her second year class and brush up on my japanese writing and reading this summer. I need to get started on that soon. ^_^ I might try translating manga or something simple to start off with. My major goal with the language is to learn to completely read in Japanese. I'd probably buy a few novels in Japanese in a few years from now and just work on being able to read japanese books. There's one series I really want to read, that I've heard is probably one of the most difficult books to read in Japan. It's called Trinity Blood. There's two series out right now. Rage on the Moon, and Reborn on Mars. I'd love to buy those books and read the kanji in them. As for now.....well, I hate to say it, but I can figure out some very simplistic sounds because I recongize the hiragana used for them. And mose of those sounds unforanutely are from hardcore sex manga. Yeah....sad. Oh wells. At least I'm beginning to recongize them off the bat!!! |

Hmmm. The basic stuff that I have are pretty good for getting some of the basics, though they're not entirely clear, and they're cheap. My teacher was thinking of just using the book that has no fancy pictures in it that would jack up the price. Let me get my writing book and learning book out. The first book is called "Learn Japanese, New college Text, volume one" by John Young and Kimiko Nakajima-Okano. The ISBN number is this: 0824808592. You can buy it new for about twenty dollars at Barnes and Noble online. The second one is my writing book where I learn the hiragana and katakana. It's called "A Guide to Learning Hiragana & Katakana, First steps to reading and writing Japanese." The ISBN number is: 0804833915. I really like this book, since it covers pretty much every character in the two kana langauges to me. And it provides you some space to pratice your own hiragana and katakana. It's around 15 dollars for this book. Those are the only books that I have, not counting my Japanese dictionary. If you want me to list it, I could. I don't quite know how to use my dictionary yet, haha. Most of the words in there are in kanji, and I haven't learned kanji yet. I kinda brought the dictionary a bit too far ahead of time for my japanese classes. The sensei said I wouldn't need it until second year or third year Japanese. Whoops. Hehehe. I hope this helped you! |

I can't suggest a really good book. But would you like to ask the Japanese Embassy if they're giving basic Japanese Language courses? I think it'll be helpful. My mother learned how to read, write and speak Japanese through the Japanese Embassy. It wasn't in the United States though. ^_^ |
Re: Is Japaniese Hard or easy to learn?

ok well thanks, ill look into thoes books! by the way what is hiragana and katakana? sorry, i really know NOTHING about japaniese (thats why i want to learn!) |
Re: Is Japaniese Hard or easy to learn?

Uh i think it is not really hard to learn if you put your time into it, but that really goes for any language. Heh. And really i find thier is so many dialects that is can be pretty hard so either find a new language or keep working.
Woo-hoo!

I'd love to be able to read and write and speak Japanese. But i don't just want to know japanese to be able to watch anime without subtitles, i realy like the whole japanese culture, and its probalry one of the most beautiful sounding languages in the world. I know a few basic words, but not enough to have a conversation with. I am going to buy a couple of books on how to speak and read and write japanese, and i will realy work hard at it. |

Hmmm.....How hard it is to learn Nihon Go [Japanese Language] depends on yourself...... You'll find it easy if you have the determination and put a lot.....I mean A LOT of affort into it.... But if you just learn it and stop half way through......I think that's why many people find it very hard in mastering the language.....and I'm sorry if it offended you. Yeah........I'm 20 and I'm still learning it......My main language is Maree Go [Malaysia Language].....and my 2nd language is English.......And Nihon Go will be my third language...... I find it difficult since my main language is very different from English & Japanese language..........I really have to learn simple simple vocab by hard.....[I had vero vocab in my first attend my Japanese class]......but luckily I've know the KATAKANA and HIRAGANA writing.......And I'm really happy & enjoyed my class........ If you have Japanese class.......make sure you enjoy being in it.......

Japanese is a bit hard, but it isn't impossible. I mean I have studid it..but had other things to do..so I only remember a little on what I learned on it. Subtitled anime also helps on learning the language.. like for ex. I learned Moishi (yummy) and Nani (what) from watching a DBZ movie subtitled with japanese audio. plus it makes it fun. ;) |
Re: Is Japaniese Hard or easy to learn?

hmmm it depends on if you reads Chinese or not, cuz if you don't, you're gonna spend a WHOLE LOT of time learning kanji... I am Chinese myself and I can read and write pretty good for a Chinese, but I still have problems with kanji...I can understand them but I don't know how to read them...unless they have hiragana on top of them of course... well other than kanji, Japanese is pretty easy you can register for japanese classes outside of school too, mine's only $5 per hour~ [intermediate level] |
