English to Japanese?

Is it true that some Japanese companies and alike use English words in their products because of the way it sounds? Please, do not flame or be angry about this question. I know not much of Japan, and it was just a little thing I was wondering, because some names of brands on t-shirts (ex. BONERACTIVE WEAR) or random phrases are very strange to me... |

What's different to Japanese's English and the standard English is the attitude applied to it: To Japanese, misspellings and terrifying grammar are cool. So, like you said some Japanese companies use foul names because of the way it sounds, yeah, to them it's cool. It's freaking weird, we all had to laugh out loud and we have to either admit it's gross or cool. Such odd marketing plan. I won't be surprised that you like to visit www.engrish.com. No point wondering about it, it has become a thing of a norm. Sometimes it's because of the translation way too, like the older Japanese generations translate Japanese to English by not looking at the English grammar, so their native language grammar would be their best resource to be translated into English. |

Just by telling you know/you could speak even a little english/engrish... You'll be soooo cool to them. Even those who know both language well cannot really tell teh sense ofsuch words. You could see such phrases/sentences/words mostly in titles, brands and even lyrics. Aren't you wondering why in some songs there are some random english phrases that are present all through out teh song? It adds to teh value there is to teh song. Roman characters there are an 'eyecatcher' to them. To those who aren't familiar to that kind of erk... logic... they are busy making fun of them.

It's kind of the same way like.. here in the US things that have japanese characters on them are appealing to a large group of people that think its "cool", and how theres a lot of people that get tattoos with japanese character even if theyre not sure what it means lol, because it's cool to them, and fashionable in a way. That's kind of how it is in Japan too, like HK said the Roman letters have a certain appeal to them that they think is fashionable. Kind of like how cross necklaces are popular in JRock fashion there, though it has nothing to do with christianity or anything. They just find the western style fashionable and marketable. and i guess kind of "exotic" for them. Theres a lot of products and even clothing that use english words and phrases, and a lot of times the grammar is incorrect too lol. But it doeesnt matter, because the meaning of the phrase that they used isnt important, it's just "cool" to have the western phrase on there, just like us buying products that have japanese on them when we don't know what the hell it says, but its cool coz its in japanese. =D hope that made sense, I think i'm rambling |
