Caste Discrimination

According to UNICEF AND Human Rights WAtch, caste discrimination affects an estimated 250 million people worldwide. That is one in every 25 people in the world.

Throughout history, the poor have been discriminated by the wealthy, the commoners by the aristocrats, and outcasts by even the discriminated; the commoners. Such were the importance of social stature during feudal times. Although we declare ourselves as 'civilised', some forms of class discrimination are still being practiced....a simple, common example is discrimination between the rich and the poor.

I think there's always gonna be some discrimination.
If you don't see it and think it's completely over with,
it's just hidden.

It's a shame, really. D:

I don't think we'll ever COMPLETELY eliminate discrimination.. however I do think the younger generation of parents have a duty to raise their children, the next generation) to be non discriminatory. This will most certainly cut down on the issue but it's impossible to eliminate it forever.

"... but sometimes discrimination is... helpful to certain class citizens. Like the Muslims should stick to the Muslims, so as Jews to their kind. If they mix, they will reason each other why their faiths are different, although worship the same god. What happens, understanding flawed and then a sudden competition of religions, war breaks loose, and even a more difficult peace process to go through."

Reasoning is the key to understanding. Understanding is a step towards tolerance. War breaks loose because men are too egoitical.

I agree with Twins and DA. It's possible to increase mutual understanding among the social groups, to lighten up the potential conflicts. If it's not gonna be about religion or economical conditions, something will come up that will differentiate the groups. Take for instance Haredim Judaism, despite them following the same principles in terms of interpretation of the Torah and rabbinic literature, they still separate themselves into various groups like Chabad-Lubavitch, Satmar etc. 'Cause of that they despite sharing the same cities, they live at their on communities, with their on synagogues.
All of this just make me think when Hobbes talks about "the war of all against all" when we show this tendency of forming groups.

Furthermore, it's always possible to address the problem of power and how those who have it maintain it. I don't know why we have such defensive position against other people, but one can imagine that discrimination is just a justification for not sharing (which means losing) power, understanding such term on its broadest way. In the same way Nietzsche explains the origin of knowledge as a result of such power dynamics. All of this leads to the sad conclusion that discrimination won't cease to exist, simply because Power won't cease to exist. T-T

You might suggest establishing mutual understanding, but how will that happen when some people are too proud and stubborn to even think about co-exising with people of other religions? In some religion, it is said that only the believers of that religion will go to heaven and the rest of the world are preordained to burn in hell. It's strange people still strongly believe in this.

And when it comes to electing the government, one religious group will prefer to have their own men, rather than the other group, to play the most part in governing the state. So they actually don't get along even though it might look like they are.

Most countries still are based on the caste system whether you guys know it or not. It is just now they're not as obvious. Japan, as told by my Japanese Professor, "is heavily based on the caste system. Screw up what you say and how you say it could mean the end of your job, life" etc etc etc etc etc. =\

I'll go ahead and say the poor often go on tyrades about how the rich suck. Don't say that isn't true.

^Ever watched the show Kaiji?

Slaves or Peasants have nothing to lose and everything to gain while the King has everything to lose and nothing else to gain.
