Your thoughts about man living outerspace

If someday we could live in other planets(think Star wars or any other sci-fi flick) and can now live in them, would you? Obviously, no one will think of living in Mercury(since it's dead close to the sun) and etc. which are uncapable of being and would be an impossible human habitat..(but who knows in the future). But yeah would you like traveling to outerspace ? And actually live outside Earth? I don't know if there's a thread like this. But please let me know. Anyway views? Opinions? very curious... For me..nah I wouldn't leave Earth. but when you have to..(I hope not)you have no choice. Hmm..the probability of us living with aliens in the future scares me. But I (and we)probably wouldn't live to see that, would I? Just your thoughts on this..

Sure as heck would! I mean, I have no special reason to leave earth at this point and nothing in particular I'd like to do on another planet. But it must be so enthralling to see our homeworld from the outside (8D Though I would probably not have the stomach for spacetravel, I allready get sick at a boot trip in fair weather. It might not even be better on the surface of another planet while planets all have their own vibrations (be they very low frequency). So wouldn't that totally S&$K to find out after a loooong space travel that the planet itself keeps you feeling woozy even with both feet on the ground?! And then there are the issues of gravity, geological and atmospheric conditions, magnetic fields, life-strife and who knows what! I think it would all make for unimaginable experiences but the question remains how many generations adaptation real settlement might take. |

I'd like to visit space one day, and maybe see the Earth from how they see it up there (points). Although, I love the life down here where there's gravity. :3 ![]() ------- |

From what I've read, Mars is a good candidate for colonization. Before life can exist on a planet such as Mars, Terraforming must take place. This is the long process of creating a more earth-like environment with oceans, and an atmosphere which shields the planet from harmful radiation and contains enough oxygen to support humans. Given the opportunity to be one of the first to homestead Mars, I would certainly take it. Life on any new frontier is very dangerous, and very difficult. That being said, people who risk their lives on new frontiers are heros, in my opinion. Your concern of "aliens" is cute, but I'm afraid you are very misinformed. It is reasonable to assume other life forms capable of radio communication exists throughout the universe, in far off galaxies. It is even possible, although far far far less likely, that such life exists inside our milky way galaxy. Even if that were the case, the milky way is 360,000 light years across. This great distance assures that no visitors from far away will reach us unless they have had a great LONG time to culturally mature. Of course, it is plausible that during the long journey from whatever far-off star system, they have grown a tad grumpy. In any case, they wouldn't likely not arrive here any time soon, since we only just recently started unintentionally (but harmlessly!) polluting the cosmos with our radio signals. Of course, these signals, being light, travel one light-year per year! So, even if we happen to be incredibly close neighbors with another radio-capable civilization, they'll be hearing from us in a few thousand years. Then, we'll be hearing from them long before we are visited, unless they have some sort of surprise in mind, because space ships travel definitely slower than the speed of light! Live long and prosper ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Yeah, I wouldn't want to be the first to go homestead Mars because it's like a new OS it's good and all but there's always glitches. I'd still go to Mars, I just wouldn't be the first batch. As for going out of our solar system, right now it's impossible, and if it is we are far from colonizing other solar systems. ![]() |

Mars is good for the sole purpose: The sun will expand and therefore make the Earth inhabitable. So Mars will accommodate for that. Plus it's close by and has earth-like elements on it. ![]() |

the sun's gonna expand? o.O were u hear that? but i do think living in outer space would be cooler than being STUCK on earth I rather prefer that. ![]() ![]() |

He said expAND, not expLODE. Our sun is far too puny to explode in a Supernova. As the sun begins to run out of fuel, it will indeed grow larger in radius, into what is called a red giant. The fuel in the sun is mater, and as this mater is ejected into space, the sun contains less matter, and therefore less mass. The mass of an object is related to it's gravitational force, so as it looses mass, it will loose gravitational force as well. The gravitational force is what keeps objects like planets and suns in their nice round shape, squishing all objects inwards towards the center. With less gravitational pull towards the center, the sun swells like a fat man loosening his belt (where did I come up with that??). This will indeed cause the Earth's seas to boil be blown out into space along with the atmosphere. No worries, though, cause that won't happen for like a billion years or whatever XD ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Getting back to the topic, it seems like the question boils down to: Would you choose to explore the frontier? This is a very personal choice. There seems no moral right or wrong answer. There is nothing wrong with choosing to live a safe life within the confines of normalcy. Similarly, there is nothing wrong with taking on a risky challenge that could pave the way for a new chapter in history. I highly respect people who gave their lives in the exploration of new lands and seas. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Here's a good question: how much money/time/energy would you like your society (read: government) spend on exploring space? My answer is: A whole lot. If I had my way, we'd take all the money going to defense and put it into the sciences, then take all the money that was going to the sciences before, and funnel that into defense. (ouch that hurt >.< i've been gendowned) but i understand more now. so when the sun turns into a red giant won't it start to cool down also? but anyway don't you think there would be space colony's before we, and i quote"Terraform mars" end quote. cause i think living in a colony would be pretty nice. ![]() ![]() |

^Lol, Terra-forming includes the process of colonizing. I mean, how are we gonna Terra-form Mars in the first place? We can't just shoot life from earth and land it on Mars, hoping it'll sprout into something earth-like. ![]() |

@ukame: True, the sun's output will be less when it is a red giant. This won't matter much, though, because the entire Earth will be ENGULFED in the corona of the sun! @SkyL: http://science.howstuffworks.com/terraforming.htm ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Wow guys I'm learning things here... Yeah it's not possible to live in outerspace NOW because of certain conditions of the planets like all the things you said and so living in outerspace now is impossible. And yeah I agree that possibility will be in a billion years or so..so we won't see it.Just a thought. And I wondered what people think. By the way..Thank you Gendou for gracing us with your presence in this thread..and sharing a lot of knowledge with us.Yeah but still living with aliens (like Star Wars but yeah fiction).. although there is no evidence that there are aliens...really scares me.But having good aliens is good..I think.Yeah I am slightly misinformed but the possibility really scares me.. Yeah thank you again Gendou for clarifying and teaching us important things on that.Yeah because of that I remember reporting about Stars and Supernovas, red giants, about the galaxy in college.Anyway..And everyone thank you also for giving their thoughts about the topic.Scary thought about the sun though..we'll all be fried..and dead obviously. Also the probability of all this..living in other planets would be way too soon so..it's okay. I wouldn't live on other planets unless I have to..yeah Mars is said the most possible planet to be become human habitat in the future.Anyway..I'd still choose earth if life was still good. But yeah that would be billion of years to go(since we have to do something about that planets first). Yes exploration and seeing the universe would be awesome.Milky way..cool.But I'll get dizzy and sick(because I have a sensitive stomach) first though. Though I'm curious about using money going to defenses and putting into science thing then using into defenses..yeah I'm just err..confused and I don't really undestand though how..ok we explore the universe and now..uhh..I don't know. (I suddenly remembered Terminator 3*shudders*when said that Bush will have the money all in defenses..but yeah Terminator 3 is fiction and a movie)..hmm.uh..getting dizzy..I'll check the link first...(Ah..checked it.I hope he just uses it to protect America..not build a robotic army or something..or get cranky and use whatever biological weapons on terrorists..not bad but innocent people may get involved.I watch too many movies.okay this got out of hand..not on topic am I?) Ok back to topic.. (Err..this is too long already..sorry.) :)

Of course I would want to travel to the outerspace! To me, whatever is in the sky, everything's mysterious, so it's very mesmerising and a great experience to see the beauty in space. Nothing is impossible cuz we have scientific technologies! After all Gendou lectured us the possibilities of culturing planets and other great scientific advances for space exploration, yeah, I wanna experience travelling to outerspace and live in outerspace if possible! I hate the term 'aliens'. It sounds stupid. It makes unknown species sounds like discriminated foreigners. I just can't believe in UFOs. |

Even though there is no way it would happen in my life time I would love to travel to another planet to live. Humans do have to expand beyond Earth after all. ![]() ![]() |
