Something I Need 2 Know

| My Name is bryan and i just want to confirm something thats been on my mind for a while(about a good month and a half).Is it wrong for somebody to listen to japanese music,or read manga's.Watch anime and have an intrest in the japanese language?because to the people i talk to they consider those kind of people as freaks. |

let me asked you this, who are you anyway?? are you 'those people' or are you yourself the only one of a kind bryan in the world. i hate when people asked this question because THEY DON'T HAVE SELF RESPECT SELF ACTUATION they made them self out of people think, if the people think this bad, is it bad for me??, if people things good is it good for me?? can you at least think for yourself?? think for yourself, think about your own body, think what's good for you, what you like, what your hobby is, can you at least thought it by yourself??? then if i say your a freak, you'll stop listening to japanese musics, stop learning japanese language, well is it?? can i asked you this, tell those people, what their hobby are, then tell them is that what your hobby are?? man you're a freaks can't believe some people said that in this day and age if you like reading a book and people said that you're a freak, and you thought 'is it wrong?' if you like to play soccer and some people said to you that you're a freak, then again you start thinking 'is soccer wrong?' if you like to hear english song, disco song, and whatever there is to offer, and some people said to you, you're a freak, and you start thinking "is it wrong?' to hell about what they thought!!!!!!! what do you think about japanese musics? what do you think about japanese language?? have you done something wrong to the community if you have interest it that, have you done something wrong that even make someone ill, have you done something wrong ???? so i give you this question is liking something is wrong???? then tell those people, this so-called non-freaks people is it something wrong ?? did i offend you?? don't think to much because your problem not is it wrong or not your problem lies in what will you choose?? (guessing that your peer group or community bullies you and telling you a freak) what will you choose your friends or community or yourself sorry if there any foul word or any that offend you and i believe there are many i just hate when people can't think for them self and have to made him/her self out of other people way and thought

Though as soon as you start developing an interest for japanese people who are interested in people interested in people interested in learning your own language, I'd say your a freak! Or wait... I'm confused... Look, If you like japanese anime, then watch it (I do, 27 years old and still loving the stuff!). But don't watch anime which supposed to look like japanese anime but really isn't, and is not so pretty obviously because all non-japanese anime sucks. And listen to the japanese music if you like it. But if you don't like music which is identical with real japanese music because it's not REALLY japanese I'd say your a japanophile, and you got some identity issues going on. ( [mumbles:] people.. interested in japanese people, no wait. Japanese people who are interested in japa.. ehhm.. Okey; People who.. Awwh F$@# IT!) |

Is loving an anime bad ? Here's one more example which you could say , " Leave the bastards alone ! " just like what we've said here before =.= There is another thread on ' Otaku Disputation ' , but I can't find it >< . |

I know exactly where your coming from. Because i know people who have those feelings. however i have tried and tried over and over to get them use to this and slowly but surely my friends are accepting this and some of them might have even started listening to it themselves d('~`)b

Based on what are they calling anime fans "wrong"? Is it because we're a "minority" compared to those who are not anime fans? If that's so, that's like a discrimination (or maybe it is). Just because there's more of them than us we're wrong? Is it so wrong to be different when we're not doing any harm? There's no guarantee that they're "right" or "normal" either. @Kiseno: Being an anime fan is, in my opinion, a matter about your liking of anime, not your knowledge on it, so even if you have limited knowledge on anime, if you do like it, you're still an anime fan. Or do you not like anime at all? Even if yes, doesn't mean you have to go out though.   |

My opinion is that they might not be used in Japanese things 'coz they're not Japanese citizens but I tell you, you, no, we anime/ Japanese lovers aren't freaks! ....is this conclude 'racism'? i mean liking other cultural isnt a crime.. i can tell you listening japanese music,read manga,anime or even interest in japanese language is not a fault~ if you got a interest..you should take a step to go forward~ If you really care about how people call freaks..then you are absolutely wrong about going to be the same as them~ be different a real different than them~ please..~dont care about what they say I would say that human lives and got only 1 life~ whatever their doing is gonna related to the past and the future~ why don't you concentrate on doing something you wanted to instead of asking yourself 'is it wrong to like other cultural..?' Please do not get influence of the history history learnt to teach you walk forward to the future and not seeing back the past and get people to say freaks all around of people because they like japanese~ |

I, personally, am a Mexican by heritage, yet I've taken lessons in the German language and love anime and manga. It is a matter of opinion. One should not let someone else's opinion affect their own. If liking other cultures is something your friends frown upon, then it may be time to find new friends. Ones that will not look down upon your interests. @ adeline: I think you mean: "...is this considered 'racism'?" @ k.m. revolution: let's refrain from using so many ellipses. Doing so wastes space and can make your post unreadable. People do not want to play "seek-and-find" just to read someone's post. |

Why would it be bad to have an interest in Japanese culture and anime? A statement like that makes absolutely no sense. What would be bad is if somebody is making fun of the culture. Admiring qualities of a culture is a positive thing. What these people you know are saying is as ridiculous as saying (for example) people who love to eat Italian or Chinese food are freaks because the food comes from other countries. |

some of my friends told me that too...so what? whats wrong with listen to japanese music,or read manga's, watch anime and have an intrest in the japanese language? is it a crime to do that?? its not, because anime/manga/music is arts, and arts can save the world, this is animax o_O lolz XD just be yourself...dont let others intrude on u with that crap XD   |

In this world there are things that are "mainstream", being mainstream means everyone does it, and if you don't then you are not considered "normal", however every person is an individual being that makes their own choices. However it is the said person's choice whether they want to follow the mainstream or not. Don't let people get to you about things as stupid as that, calling something stupid because they don't do it themselves, however I do think there is some justification on when someone will ridicule another over what they like. If you strut into school with your I-pod blaring Naruto openings and have headbands up and down your arms, then yes you are asking to get picked on. This returns to the idea of something being mainstream, that because the majority does not do it they will not understand what you are trying to do. So to make this a short sweet and simple answer, People make their own choices and some choices are influenced by society, however it is up to one's self to choose whether or not they want to go against the "normal" To answer your actual question: No, just because you watch anime, listen to japanese music, or read manga does not make you weird. Find people who are interested in the same thing as you. Gendou is a good place to start, but find people in your own town that share an interest with you.  |
