I will have some Japan exchange students stay for a while, can anyone give me a few phrases or things to say doing with videogames(like, I win! or other affiliated words)also things to do with eating and going places and others.In english so I can pronounce it. Nani?!

Pronounce the upper case letters in the parenthesis as it is. Example: A- AY as in hay E- EE as in see I- I as in pie O- OH as in go or no U- YOU as in you Gomenisai(gO-men-i-sI) sorry Itadakimasu(E-tah-da-kE-masu) a traditional way of saying "Let's eat." Ganbatte(gahn-ba-te) A way to cheer someone on I'll post some more next time. TDYTL/Drynwyn

Sumimasen = excuse me/sorry Daijobu = it's ok/i'm ok/are you ok (look at context) Daijobu desu ka? = are you ok ~ wa doko desu ka? = where is ~ I'll post more later...

What are you, an idiot? - Kisama (you-vulg) wa nani mono da? Ahou(idiot)ka? Eh? That's a little to abusive, coz japanese they're usually very polite in terms of lingual!! Anata ga suki.~ I like(love) You. Shitagau no ka - You hear me? Nige dasu no ka - Running away? When meeting someone for the first time one would say the following two phrases. Hajimimashite - pleased to meet you. Doozo joroshiku - treat me kindly. I love Kamui!

here are some adj. I picked up... kawaii = cute sugoi = amazing kire = beautiful kakkoii = cool kakkouwarui = uncool [side note: teh = the in l33t; Pocky = buscuit sticks dipped in chocolate, from Japan; fetish = obsession] ^_~

Heh, that's so embarrassing!! Actually I enjoyed sharing good things with everyone!! Some common proverbs: 善は急げ - zen ha isoge - (exp) Strike while the iron is hot ひゃくぶんわ一見にしかず - hyakubun wa ikken ni shikazu - Seeing is believing 子を見ること親に如かず - ko wo miru koto oya ni shikazu - (exp) The parent is the best judge of the child いっせきにちょう - isseki nicho - killing two birds with one stone 郷に入っては郷に従え - sato ni itsutte ha sato ni shitagae - when in Rome, do as the Romans do 墓穴を掘る - boketsu wo horu - (exp) to bring calamity upon oneself 住めば都 - sume ba miyako - (exp) you can get used to living anywhere 海の物とも山の物とも判らない - umi no mono tomo yama no mono tomo wakara nai - (exp) neither fish nor fowl / cannot be foreseen 井の中の蛙大海を知らず - i no nakano kaeru taikai wo shirazu - (exp) parochial / provincial / used to encourage someone to get a wider perspective I hope you all will like my tiny little proverb collections!! Ah...I'm confusing!! Hora minna-san, I've more japanese phrase to share: Idioms - 汗を掻く -ase wo kaku -to perspire or to sweat (exp) 頭隠して尻隠さず - atama kakushi te shiri kakusa zu - don't cover your head and leave your bottom exposed / you have to be careful not to expose your weak point while attempting to protect yourself (exp) 頭に入れる - atama ni ire ru - to keep in mind 頭に来る - atama ni kuru - to get mad/to get pissed off/to get angry 頭を冷やす - atama wo hiya su - to cool down one's anger 雨降って地固まる -ame futte chi katama ru - adversity builds character 図星を指す - zuboshi wo sasu - to hit the nail on the head/to guess exactly right 迷惑を掛ける - meiwaku wo kake ru - to impose trouble/to annoy/to bother 堪忍袋の緒が切れる - kanninbukuro no o ga kire ru - to be out of patience/to be unable to put up with something anymore TBC...
