Any advice for a junior college?
|
What the title said. I'm going to college soon enough, once I get my SPM results. Which are my last year final exam in high school. I'm facing 2 problems. - I could not socialize with someone I never known before, and hardly I could introduce myself to them. - I'm doubting the course I am taking soon. I might feel boredom after a few weeks or month. In additional fact, I'm not thinking matured, so hopefully, past graduates of college/university could help me with these kind of problem they faced before. I've heard a lot of advice, yet I'm still shy and afraid, and wish to escape. Lol seems like a little emo.
I claimed someone that I can't remember because photobucket is ended.

Depending on what you want to study, your grades, and your own wishes, you may not have to go far from home. I'm going to a local two-year college to transfer into a four year university, both schools being in driving distance from my house now. I still live at home at 20, though I'll prolly get a dorm room or something when I transfer to The University of South Carolina. As far as socializing goes, just strike up come casual conversation. Talk about your classes or teachers, drop in on a conversation about something you may know about and add your own opinion, and casually introduce yourself somewhere as the conversation continues. And if you doubt what course you're going to take, thing over all your options. Be sure what you take is what you want to do. Worse come to worse, however, just take some basic core classes that everyone needs, then maybe some introduction courses to various subjects you may be interested in. First couple of years are typically just core classes and not TOO many degree-specific classes. |

Honestly, I was shy going to college for the first time as well. Dorming by myself (well with roomates), but in the city by myself? That's nerve-wrecking honestly. Although I did go to college for a year and I'm currently waiting for this Fall to hopefully get back into studies, it doesn't take long to make friends. You'll make friends within your major quickly, it might take longer, but you'll get comfortable eventually. I honestly knew more people outside of my major then my actual major. I went to an art oriented school for GFX, and I knew web designers, photographers, even fashion and culinary people more. It just takes time for some people to get adjusted to college, especially if it took longer in high school. All you gotta do is make yourself open, impress your classmates with your work helps cause teachers notice you. Maybe you can join clubs to help make friends as well. I'm sure you'll get connected with your roomates. Although there were a lot of drinkers and weed dealers in my dorm, typical, they were still nice people. Btw, I wouldn't encourage drinking at a party to make friends, but that is one way to get noticed. It's just Winter still so you have time to get ready, don't feel pressured to much. It's honestly like the first day of high school, but once you get to know people you'll make friends. And you'll eventually see the same faces as your term goes on (after fundamentals are over). ------- |

I've look through all the possible college I might go and search up its courses and the budget. Yet, every time I'm at home, a few moments later, I gave up on designing that something I can't design and just felt bored doing it. Although my wishes are being a Graphic Designer or a Web Designer. It doesn't matter which, but these are the jobs that I like to do and wish to own some money from it. My trip to these college are about an hour or so. Took a bus and a train and walk about 15 mins. I even visited the college inside and out to see where is everything is. College A, I visited about 15 times and I think its suitable for me. I've known well their staffs. I am going to take up College B's workshop in March soon and see how it goes. If they have everything I wanted to learn, then I should take that college even though it takes about 30mins walks or a bus. In College A, they've put up a workshop pass high school graduates, and I was a loner there. I didn't make any friends on the first day, but on the second day, I met one girl and she actually introduce herself to me. I did the same. Although we didn't talk much, yet I've told her I speak chinese too xD I stop on the second day of the workshop, because they were given basic knowledge that I've known before, so I dropped the workshop. Plus, I'm always late on the workshop, it makes me feel that I'm not responsible for my own time and others. DA: I still have a month and a few weeks before the result came. And I'm in Malaysia xD So there's no four season for us. Usually all pass graduates of high school went straight to college right after the results came. Some even had a part-time job just to make the day pass away.

Oh I see. That is different than how the states do it, sucks you have to go right away. That's something I wish I had done but I was pretty much pushed into going to college right away when I never even made a decision. If you have experience with both or enjoy doing both, you should get into Web Design instead of plain GFX cause you can learn GFX within Web Design. Also in the real life from a business stand point, Web Designers make more money (at least statistically here in the states), however you can make one crazy logo for like Twitter or something, and end up making more than a Web Design makes in a year so it depends. You can always learn more GFX while studying Web Design so I say go for that. If you like College A that's good, but if College B is also nice and much closer significantly that might be an easier choice. Although yeah the price of dorms and whatnot also apply to these two schools, you'll have to make that decision on your own. I lived about 2 hours away from my parents when I went to school, and honestly I'd hate to be too close to home but not so far away as well. Honestly if there's an asian related section of the city near by AKA Chinatown or such, I'm good. XD So if these results come you might have to go to school right away? That's tough and confusing. You don't get Summer break or anything, though sometimes Summer after graduating high school is boring anyways. And see you met a girl already, did you get her contact info? lol, these days it's not about exchanging phone numbers, it's exchanging facebook names to add each other. ^_^ ------- |
